Entangled Vines

STATUS REPORT - August 29th, 3029. Signed by: Dr. Nila Fleming

Mission 4218:

Team deployed from EARTH military base to planet K2-18B, classified as hycean world. Primary objective was routine collection of marine flora from viscous ocean sectors.

During standard collection procedures from our team's divers, we encountered a peculiar plant-like organism not previously recorded in research data.

The organism appears to be rooted in a dense, gel-like substance and extends multiple vine-like appendages. It survives in dense, 4.7km deep ocean flooring. Unlike other collected specimens, the organism appears to move vine-like appendages when approached by team. Emitting a faint red light from crown.

One viable sample was secured and transported back to the research lab, under containment and observation.

Further classification is required.

Nila sat at her desk in the University research lab. She filed away paperwork and typed away her computer. Logging all the new specimens the team had collected from the recent mission. Nila sighed and laid back in her chair. Her student, Maddie Novikov, strolled into her workspace.

"You don't look so hot." Maddie said, wincing at Nila's dark undereyes, sitting down across from her.

"Yeah, this is the result of being in space for 2 weeks every few months." Nila responded, defeatedly.

"I think it's really cool you get to go to all these planets. I've never travelled that far." Maddie said.

"You will if you keep studying. You're a bright student, you just need to pass all the certifications for regular space travel. That is, if you want to keep researching off-planet living things." Nila stood up to make coffee. "Want some?" She asked Maddie.

"Yes please." Maddie smiled and leaned against a desk. "I do, I just wish my certification didn't have to wait until I graduate."

"I understand, but trust me you will get there someday soon." Nila smiled back at her.

Nila sat down and stirred her coffee, she loved it sweet and sugary. She sat in contemplation, staring off into the distance where the new specimen was being contained.

"Professor Fleming?" Maddie said, confused.

Nila snapped out of her trance and shot up from her chair. "Maddie, come look at this." She said with intense urgency.

Maddie walked with Nila and they both stared at the specimen together. It was contained in a rectangular glass aquarium, full of water from Earth's ocean. An attempt to simulate the environment it previously thrived in.

"What am I looking at?" Maddie asked. "What is it?"

Nila smiled and paused. "I don't know. I've never seen anything like it. We have no records of a plant like this ever being discovered. I'm going to name it Hydra Flemingae."

"That's incredible. Professor, why are you showing it to me?" Maddie asked, placing her hand over her chest.

Nila placed both her hands on Maddie's shoulders. "Because... Maddie, you are brilliant. A rockstar. I'm willing to offer you a job, you will work under me as an assistant for lab research. All you have to do is study this plant for a week and bring me a full report on its behaviors. Feel free to ask for help with resources from the University, I'll supervise your one-week trial and approve the equipment you may need."

"Professor... I am so grateful for this. But, what does this mean for my career?" Maddie asked.

"Maddie," Nila started, holding her hands and sitting them both down. "I can accelerate your graduation. You'd work for me under a co-op program. Earn more credits, and money. You can get your certifications faster." Nila smiled. "And plus, I need the help. You are exceptional. At least think about it?"

Maddie teared up and lurched over to embrace Nila into a hug. "Thank you, professor. I don't need to think about it, I accept. I can start as soon as possible. I won't let you down."

Nila smiled and nodded.

Maddie sat at her desk, staring at Hydra Flemingae. Laptop open and pen to paper, ready to analyze this specific beast. She was trying to prioritize what type of testing to do on this creature and for how long without killing it. Maddie realized the closer she got to Hydra, the more the vines seemed to be reaching towards her. She put her finger against the glass and a vine pressed against it as well from inside the tank. This confirmed to Maddie that it could independently move its vines, in a seemingly intelligent way.

Maddie decided to record this observation and write it down. Then she decided to drain out some of the water from the tank to see how it would react. There appears to be no change, she jotted down in her notes.

As she wrote in her notebook and started up a draft for her paper, Maddie hadn't noticed the vines behind her moving out from the top of the tank. The Hydra Flemingae thrived in a viscous ocean fluid, what Maddie could discover is upon dehydrating the plant- it would be in search for a water source.

The Hydra had green and blue vines that were smooth and almost rubbery. Nila had even begun theorizing it was some kind of plant/fish hybrid. Not that she would share that with Maddie before she finished her own observations.

It's green and blue slithery vines began wrapping around Maddie's legs and slowly rising up. Maddie notices and starts panicking, fighting off the Hydra. She takes a pencil and stabs it in the vine, wrapped around her leg. The stab wound bleeds a reddish/white fluid and heals itself rapidly, before her very eyes.

Maddie screamed as the Hydra dragged her back into the laboratory before she could crawl all the way out. Its slimy tentacle-like vines infiltrated through Maddie's clothes, tearing away at her pants and would then insert itself inside of Maddie's vagina. The crown of the Hydra emitted a red light and a pleasant scent filled the air, breathed in by Maddie. Suddenly, she relaxed and spread her legs. The aroma seemingly sedated her panicked reaction.

Maddie's mind was completely under the control of the Hydra, and she had accepted her fate. Even began to feel complete bliss and pleasure.
