Chapter 2: "The Wrong Harrington"

ERICA:

"Hot daddy alert! Quick, check him out. The one in the gray swim shorts. Oooh, I just know it's big."

"Leah, stop, you're literally such a creep," I pretended to protest, but I couldn't help but laugh at my best friend's brazenness and look at the man she was pointing out.

"For real, though," she persisted. "See, for me that's the perfect combo of buff and dad bod. Big chest, big arms, but also a bit of a belly. And who wears gray shorts to a public swimming pool? You can practically see through them. I swear he's tryna show it off."

Before starting our senior year of high school tomorrow, Leah and I were spending the day lounging by the outdoor pool at the bougiest gym in the area. We were lucky that Leah's cousin worked as a manager here, because this place was way out of our price range. Now that she and I were both single, Leah claimed this would be the perfect place to meet guys.

"I don't see a ring on his finger, do you?" she said, still eyeing the man in the gray shorts. He looked to be in his early 40s, and he was definitely in good shape. He was the tallest in his group of friends, wearing shorts that were basically the length of boxers. With a muscular ass and a hefty bulge, I couldn't fault my friend for noticing him. I looked closer, which was when I realized...

"Oh my God, that's Jayson's dad!" I exclaimed. "I didn't recognize him with the sunglasses and the hat on. Stop staring before he catches us!"

Too late. My ex-boyfriend's dad turned toward our loungers and saw us. I'd only spoken to him a few times in the past, so I expected him to just wave and turn back to his friends. Instead, Jayson's dad started walking toward me.

"Hi, Erica!" he said, standing next to me with his crotch at the same level as my face.

"Hi, Mr. Harrington. This is my friend Leah," I said, feeling embarrassed and eager to draw attention away from me."

"Nice to meet you, Leah. And please, I've told you to call me Douglas," the man said.

"Nice to meet you, Douglas. Erica was just saying how much she likes your shorts," my friend said, happy to stir the pot as always. I loved Leah, but at this moment I wanted to push her in the pool.

Luckily, I noticed a small Eagles logo on Douglas's shorts so I just said, "Um, yeah, I'm an Eagles fan."

"You like football?" he asked with a big smile.

"She likes football players," Leah continued to tease.

"You know, I used to play football in high school," Douglas revealed.

"Really?" I asked. I could feel sweat dripping down my neck and sliding between my boobs. My bikini was quite revealing, and I couldn't help but wonder if it was catching Douglas's eyes. With his shades on, it was impossible to tell.

"Yeah. I was the quarterback," he added proudly. "My son's not to only ball player in the family."

"How is Jayson?" I asked.

"He's good. He's been in Texas for a week now. He seems happy with everything," Douglas nodded. There was sweat dripping down his chest as well, making its way through the hair between his protruding pecs. I caught myself wishing I could run my fingers through his chest hair to check if it was as soft as it looked.

Although I wanted to keep the conversation going, I simply couldn't come up with anything to say other than, "Cool."

"Well, it was really nice to see you again, Erica," he said with another smile. "And nice to meet you, Leah. You guys enjoy the weather."

"Girl, I didn't know Jayson's dad was hot. You were going after the wrong Harrington," Leah said as soon as we were alone.

"You are such a shit-stirrer," I pointed out.

"Why, cuz I made that comment about his shorts?" Leah laughed. "I was just tryna see how he'd react. I feel like he was totally checking you out."

"You only think that because WE were checking HIM out," I said.

"No, because why did he even come to talk to you?"

"Cuz he's nice?" I said.

"That's more than nice. Talking about, 'I used to be a quarterback.' He was trying to impress you," Leah insisted.

"He only brought that up cuz we were talking about his son playing football," I argued.

"Whatever. Speaking of Jayson, have you heard from him?"

"Nope, and I don't think I will be anytime soon," I said. "He blocked me last night."

"WHAT?! Why didn't you tell me sooner?! What happened?" Leah almost rolled off her lounger.

I sighed before giving her the details. "Sooo, I've been kinda stalking Jayson's Instagram since he moved to Texas," I admitted. "He's been posting all these stories with a bunch of girls, looking real cozy. And last night I was all up in my feelings so I texted him. I said something like, 'I see you're making a lot of new girlfriends.'"

"Oh my God, Erica, noooo," Leah moaned. "Did he reply?"

"Yeah. He said something like, 'I'm making friends with guys and girls in general. And honestly it's none of your business who I hang out with anymore.' And then he blocked me."

"Yikes. Kinda harsh, but I guess he didn't want you stalking him," Leah said as she pulled out her phone and tapped the screen a few times. "Wow, he even blocked my account as well."

This came as an even bigger blow. It was one thing to block me, but to block Leah, and probably the rest of my friends? He must really not want anything to do with me anymore.

"I know we broke up before he left, and everyone saw it coming," I said, "but I didn't expect it would take him a WEEK to start hooking up with other girls."

"You need to forget about Jayson and get with someone else. Preferably his dad," Leah grinned.

"Not this again," I rolled my eyes.

"Oh my God, do you have any stuff that you left at Jayson's house? Like, clothes or books or anything?"

"Now that you mention it, I did leave a few T-shirts and underwear and stuff like that. But I don't care about that stuff, it's old," I said.

"No. You need to go over there to pick it up. It'll give you some one-on-one time with Jayson's dad. Then you can see if he's interested in you."

"I am NOT going to that," I said. But that turned out to be a lie.

-- SIX DAYS LATER --

The first week of school went by in a blur. We'd barely begun, and everyone was already talking about prom and graduation and going to college. Saturday was when Jayson's absence really hit me. Leah started a new job, so she wasn't around. All of my other friends were busy. This was normally when I'd hang out with Jayson, either sneak into his house to have sex or just drive around town together. Now, I was driving around on my own, trying to calm down after having yet another fight with my mom and stepdad this morning.

I went to a couple of stores and bought a few items, taking advantage of the end-of-summer sales. I found myself driving in the direction of Jayson's house, and I even went as far as to park my car. Spontaneously, I decided to go in and pick up my stuff, like Leah suggested.

But first, I checked my reflection in the rear-view mirror. At least my makeup was cute. I was wearing jean shorts and an oversized T-shirt, but I got an idea and started rummaging through the shopping bags that were in the passenger seat. I fished out a sun dress I just bought. It was white, with cute little flowers on it, very short and also revealing in the chest area. It was perfect.

I ripped the tag off and I took off my clothes, including my bra. I put the dress on, applied some more lip gloss, and left my car. A cool breeze was blowing, making it way too cold for a dress like this. I felt my nipples perk up, and I wondered if going braless was a mistake. However, I was already at the front door, ringing the bell. Jayson's dad's car was in the driveway. He was home.

Ten seconds went by, then twenty, then thirty. It felt like half an hour. I was freezing and my anxiety increased by the second. I was about to turn around and go back to my car... when the door opened.

Douglas stood there, once again shirtless. He was even sweatier than the last time I saw him, and clearly out of breath. He was wearing sneakers and a pair of low-slung basketball shorts, welcoming me with a smile that was even whiter than my dress.

"Hey... I was on the treadmill," he said, trying to catch his breath.

"I'm sorry to interrupt," I said.

"No, don't be. I'm happy to see you. Come on in."

Happy to see me? Was that a normal thing to say to your son's ex-girlfriend? I stepped into the house, which felt almost as cold as outside, with the A/C on.

"Sorry to show up unannounced, but I don't have your number so I couldn't text you. I left a few items in Jayson's room before he left. I was wondering if it's okay to pick it up," I said.

"You're welcome to try, but good luck going through his room. That place is a mess after he was done packing," Douglas warned. "It might take you forever to find anything."

"Oh, um... Okay. I'm not in a rush," I said, checking out his ass while he walked in front of me. As we climbed up the stairs, I fought the temptation to yank his shorts down. From what I could see, he wasn't wearing any underwear.

"Take your time. I'll be around," he said, letting me into his son's room and then walking away.

Douglas was right: I'd never seen Jayson's room this messy! Normally he was quite neat for a guy. Rather than look for my clothes, I started to look at his old football trophies and other things that reminded me of him. I opened the drawers to his desk -- sometimes I always did because I was nosy. He never had a problem with me going through his stuff... but that was back when I was his girlfriend, not his ex. I smiled when I saw the amount of condoms he kept in his top drawer. He and I had used a grand total of two condoms during our relationship, the first two times we had sex. Neither of us liked how they felt, so Jayson offered to pull out every time, since I wasn't on birth control. I wondered if the college girls he was currently hooking up let him cum inside them. Probably.

There were several empty boxes lying around, so I picked one up and started to look for my clothes. I found them in his closet, which was now half-empty. I suddenly got a flashback to one of my earliest memories... My parents' closet, after my dad died. Standing here felt too heavy, so I walked out and went to look for Douglas to tell him I was ready.

Across the hall, I walked to Douglas's bedroom. The door was ajar, and I almost dropped the box I was holding when I looked inside. Jayson's dad was stark naked, with his back turned to me. He was dripping again, but this time it was with water rather than sweat. He'd just taken a shower, and he was using a towel to dry his hair.

I probably only stood there for a couple of seconds, staring at his ass and wishing he would turn around. God, he looked so good. Just like an older version of his athletic son. With my heart thumping, I turned around and carefully crept back down the hall, going downstairs into the kitchen.

I put the box down on the counter and I slipped my hand into my panties, rubbing myself. It felt good, but it just wasn't the same as when Jayson did it. Although he'd never successfully made me cum, it still felt good to be touched by him. His thick fingers... one hand fingering my pussy while his other hand gripped my throat... I missed him. Leah was right. I needed to find someone else to get over him.

"Erica? Are you down here?" Douglas's voice said loudly from the staircase.

In a flash, I pulled my fingers out of my panties. Then, without thinking, I hooked my thumb in the waistband and I pulled my underwear all the way down. I stepped out of it and stuffed it in the box with the rest of I clothes that I retrieved from Jayson's room, without a second to spare before Douglas's appearance in the kitchen, fully dressed in khaki shorts and a polo shirt.

"I checked my son's room and you weren't there," he said with a smile. "I guess you found your stuff?"

"It's all here," I said, holding up the box.

"Can I get you something to drink?"

"Water would be great," I replied. I wasn't thirsty, but I was eager to extend my stay here a bit longer.

While Douglas poured two glasses of water, I sat down on a bar stool by the counter. Rather than sit on the stool next to me, Douglas walked a few feet farther and sat down on a regular dining chair. Because his seat was much lower than mine, his head was now at the same level as my thighs. Did he do that on purpose? Either way, I spread my legs open, wondering if that would catch his eye.

"So how's everything at home?" he asked, making eye contact.

"Not great," I confessed. "My mom's husband insisted I start paying them rent as soon as I turned 18. I work as a hostess at this restaurant but now my entire paycheck goes to rent."

"That sounds a bit... extreme," Jayson's dad said, his eyes slowly wondering down. Was he looking at my chest? Or maybe between my legs?

"Yeah. I actually started looking at apartments. If I'm gonna be paying rent I might as well live on my own. But everything's so expensive, there's no way I can afford it."

"If you want me to I can... keep an eye out," Douglas said. By now, I was certain he was looking between my legs. I spread them a bit further. I noticed drops running down his forehead, but I wasn't sure if it was water from the shower or sweat. "If I see something interesting... I'll let you know."

"Please do," I said, separating my knees even further. "I'd really appreciate that."

Douglas put the glass he was holding, and he let his hand drop down to his bulge. Was it an accident, or was he trying to tell me something? Or was he trying to hide an erection? I places my hand on my bare thigh, trying to gauge my own boldness, when I suddenly noticed Douglas's shorts vibrating. Was that his dick throbbing? No -- it turned out to be his phone in his pocket. I hoped he would ignore it, but he pulled it out.

"Sorry, I better get this or I'll be in trouble," he said, glancing at the screen. "It's my girlfriend."

I felt a lump in my throat and my legs snapped shut.

"Yeah, I better go home," I said, hopping off the bar stool and grabbing the box that contained my clothes. "Thanks for letting me in get my stuff."

"Erica... If there are issues with your parents, if you ever need help or anything... Feel free to let me know," Douglas said in a kind paternal tone. I had my back turned to him, so thankfully he couldn't see the tears welling up in my eyes.

"Okay, thanks," I said, sprinting out of the house, feeling like a fool.
