.....

Lois Lane turned her phone back on. She didn't want to be bothered by Clark while she was working late at night at the Daily Planet. He was off on another mission in deep space and using advanced communications technology aboard the Justice League's ship, the Javelin, to repeatedly call her. She was already ignoring his emails and attempts at video chats on her laptop, but she couldn't turn it off because she had to work. So, she turned off her phone, at least for now, because she had to check other messages she may have.

As soon as it turned on, she wasn't completely surprised to see Clark had attempted to call her numerous times and left dozens of voice and text messages. She ignored the voice messages and looked through the first few messages; they were all apologizing for what he had done and begging to talk to her, which wasn't going to happen right now. She ignored reading the rest of the messages and looked at the few from Jimmy Olsen or Perry White for work-related purposes. She got a couple from Cat Grant to see if she wanted to get drinks together; she was tempted but had to finish her story for tomorrow's deadline.

She was all by herself, late at night, in the Daily Planet office. There was no one else around, which was just how she wanted it. She wanted to focus on her work and not think about Clark Kent, especially when he's alone in deep space with that slut Wonder Woman. He said it was all over between them and they just had to work together to save the planet whenever it was in trouble and she believed him once again. That was until she was talking to him on a video call earlier today and she saw her Wonder Woman in the background, coming out of the bathroom of Clark's ship bedroom, completely naked. He quickly realized what happened and tried to hangup the call, but he only cut off the visual connection, not the audio, and she heard them talking about getting caught by Lois. She heard enough of the conversation about their affair before he finally realized the audio was still on and turned it off.

She wished she had superpowers herself just so she could smack Clark around and knockout Wonder Woman. She was constantly being treated like a fool with how often Clark cheats on her with Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Big Barda, Maxima, and every other female superhero on the planet. And as always, she keeps taking him back every time he cheats on her.

In a way, she can't completely blame him for sex with those women, because at least they could provide him something she couldn't. Because Lois is powerless, she can't let Clark use his full strength on her during sex. He constantly had to hold back out of fear of badly hurting her, which made it hard for him to enjoy himself as much as her. Whenever he fools around with those other superpowered women, he could enjoy himself completely with his full strength.

He always came back to her, no matter what. Above all else, he was still in love with Lois Lane and wanted to be with her always. This was what kept Lois taking him back and sometimes looking the other way on his affairs. But it can be aggravating for her sometimes; it wasn't easy secretly dating Superman in more ways than one. Besides always worrying about himself getting killed by the likes of Doomsday or Darkseid, she also had to worry about who he's going to fuck around with next.

Lois was about to finish up early tonight and thought maybe she should take up Cat's offer to go out for drinks. She called up Cat to discuss where to meet up, and then all of a sudden there was loud feedback coming from the phone.

"Lois, don't hang up."

"Who is this?" she asked.

"It's Colonel Steve Trevor," he said. "Superman has been trying to call you, so he called me to get in touch with you."

"Are you serious?" she asked, feeling very aggravated.

"You have to listen to me--"

"No, you listen to me," Lois interrupted. "I'm pissed off at him right now and I don't want to talk to him. Tell him he can't use his friends, especially those through his other friends like that bitch, Wonder Woman--"

"Lois, please listen--"

"I'm not finished," she snapped at him. "Tell him he can't just use people like you to try to talk me into answering his calls. I don't want to talk to him right now, and that's final."

"Lois, your life is in danger!" Steve yelled over the phone.

"Of course, it is," she replied, rolling her eyes. "When is my life not in danger?"

"I'm en route to your location, not that far away," said Steve. "Get out of the building and I'll meet you outside."

"Who's coming after me now?" Lois asked as she shut down her laptop.

The phone call was suddenly cut off before Steve could answer her question. Lois put on her, grabbed her purse and ran for the elevator. Before entering it, she realized the phone being cut may indicate someone is blocking her signals to call for help, which may mean whoever is after her is already here. If this was the case, the elevator would be a death trap for her. Having to deal with this situation quite frequently, she developed a sense for these possible outcomes.

Lois pressed the elevator button for every few floors down, including the ground floor and quickly jumped out before the doors closed. She then ran to the stairs to run downstairs; it would take forever to run down several flights of steps, but it may be worth it to avoid the elevator. She entered every few buttons on the way down to the ground floor to make it look realistic that she may be on the elevator, as if other people were getting on and off, in case the elevator was being monitored.

About three floors down, she wondered if she was overthinking the elevator situation. Then she heard an explosion coming from the direction of the elevator shaft and was relieved to know she was right.

"DAMMIT!" a voice yelled out.

She figured it was the assailant figuring out the elevator was a ruse and would be looking for her very soon. She got two more floors down before she heard a door from a couple floors up burst open and she could hear the assailant coming down the steps. She then went through the door of the floor she was on and ran down the hallway. She had another plan involving an elevator ruse; it wasn't original, she knew, but it was the best idea she could think of to give herself more time.

On the other end of the floor was another elevator and she did the same thing as before. There was another entrance to another set of stairs for the building, but instead of running down the stairs, she just opened the door and let it close enough to make it look like she ran down the stairs again. She then hid behind a desk in the corner, where she could peek over easily enough to see what happens next and hopefully not get caught.

Lois watched a dark figure run down to the elevator. She could barely see him in the dark, so she couldn't tell who this person was. The figure saw the elevator and stopped to think; then he looked at the door to the stairway and saw it was slightly opened.

"Not falling for this again," he said and ran into the stairway and Lois could hear him running downstairs.

"Thank God that worked," she said to herself.

She ran back the other way and used the first set of stairs she was using to continue on her way down to the ground floor. She checked her phone on the way down and she still wasn't getting any signal, not even Wi-Fi. She even tried her Justice League communicator that Clark had given her to be used only as an emergency. She was still pissed off at Clark but, under the circumstances, was willing to try calling him or any member of the Justice League for help. She knew Steve Trevor was on his way to get her, but she didn't want to take any risks that he couldn't get to her in time.

She still wasn't getting any signals from the communicator, which was unusual because its advanced technology was supposed to allow it to send signals through anything. Whoever was jamming her signal was also using some advanced technology.

Realizing she needed to change up her routine, she got off the fifth floor. She was tired by then; she felt lucky she was at least running downstairs and not up. She wasn't sure if the person after her was going to be on this floor but she had to be careful. She was on the floor for an accounting office and went to the south end, where there was an entrance to a fire escape. She figured she could use it to go down to the street level through the back of the building and then meet Steve Trevor in the front, hoping he would be close by.

When she got there, she stepped onto the fire escape balcony and was surprised to see the ladder going the rest of the way down was not there.

"Oh, dammit, the Sinestro incident," she said to herself.

Not long ago, Superman fought Sinestro in the city. The battle caused some damage to the Daily Planet building, including some parts in the back. Whenever there's a superhero battle that causes damage, everyone tries to fix the front of the buildings first for presentation and then everything else. The problem is that this happens so often, there's always a delay in some building reconstruction. In this case, they delayed fixing the fire escape.

Not wanting to risk going back into the building, Lois had one last idea. It wasn't one she was fond of, but she was willing to take the chance. She reached into her purse and from the bottom pulled out one of Batman's grappling guns that he had given her a while ago. Being friendly with so many superheroes allowed Lois to get her hands on some devices of her own.

She pointed the gun up at a window sill above her and fired it. The grappling hook latched onto the window sill and she took a couple of deep breaths to prepare herself to go down. She jumped off the fire escape, held onto the gun tightly and jumped. Being a physically fit woman, she was able to hold onto the grappling gun one-handed without worrying about losing her grip on it. The grappling gun slowly reeled her down to the ground.

"Yes! I did it!" she said very enthusiastically.

"Yes, you did," said a voice behind her.

Lois turned around to see a figure coming out of the shadows into a lighted part of the alley they were in. It was Deadshot; the notorious killer for hire that has been a thorn in Batman's side for years. He was also a prominent member of the Task Force X, or the Suicide Squad as some call them, a group of supervillains the US government put together to take on dangerous missions in exchange for time off of their sentences. The only problem is, people like Deadshot keep getting themselves in trouble like this, so they keep getting sent back to Task Force X and the cycle continues on and on.

"Nice trick with the elevators, but I eventually realized what you were doing," said Deadshot through his mask.

"What do you want from me?" Lois asked.

"You know who I am and what I do. I was hired to kill you."

"Who hired you? Was it Lex Luthor? The Joker? The Penguin?"

"You don't have to keep guessing through the whole villains list," said Deadshot. "It's Carmine Falcone. You exposed one of his criminal enterprises in one of your recent stories and got it shut down. You had no idea he was behind it all, so it didn't get back to hm, but it did cost him a lot of money, so now you have to go."

"You won't get away with this," said Lois.

"We'll see."

He pointed the gun right at her head; he took a moment to enjoy the fear in Lois's eyes. Unfortunately for him, taking that moment to enjoy himself was just enough time for Steve Trevor to come out of the shadows and kick the gun right out of Deadshot's hand just as it fired.

"Oh, thank God," Lois said, feeling relieved that help was finally here.

Lois just stood back and watched these two men as they began to fight. Both men were highly skilled combatants and evenly matched. No matter how many times either of them landed a punch or a kick, the other would also block one. They pulled out weapons they both had and tried to use them on one another, but they kept deflecting how those weapons were used and taking them out of each other's hands.

Lois could see they were so evenly matched, the fight could go either way. Just in case, she needed to be prepared and dug through her purse for a souvenir she had on hand.

Throughout the fight, Steve managed to get all the guns that Deadshot tried to pull out of his hands. Unfortunately, Deadshot did the same thing when Steve pulled one of his own guns on him. Deadshot then started using knives and Steve managed to knock three of them out of his hands. The fourth one finally got him in the left arm, as Deadshot slashed his bicep. He tried to slash him again, but Steve took it off of him and used it to stab Deadshot in the leg.

Deadshot was used to being stabbed in his line of work, so as much as it hurt, he still kept fighting. But the distraction from the pain of his leg wound slowed him down and allowed Steve to get the upper hand on him. Deadshot still fought hard, not giving in for a moment. Steve was a little impressed by how hard his opponent was still fighting despite everything. Finally, Steve took him down with a kick to the jaw, knocking him out, flat on his back.

"Are you alright?" Steve asked Lois as he walked up to her.

"I'm good what about you?" she asked, pointing at the wound on his arm.

"Just a flesh wound; I'm used to it by now," he said. "Is that pepper spray?"

Steve was referring to the small spray canister in her hand that resembled a pepper spray. It was the item she had ready in case Deadshot managed to defeat Steve.

"Not exactly," she said.

Before she could finish her sentence, they both heard the sound of a gun being cocked. They looked over at Deadshot, who was up pretty fast after being knocked out, now standing up looking very woozy as he held the gun up at them. Steve thought he took away all the guns Deadshot was carrying, but he must've gotten this one of the guns that fell on the ground during their fight.

"I may give Carmine his money back because I'm going to enjoy this so much," said Deadshot.

Just before he took the shot, Steve managed to grab the gun and point it upwards, making the gun fire up in the air. Lois took the small canister she had in her hand and sprayed it into Deadshot's face. His mask was ripped open during the fight, so he got a good whiff of what came out of it.

"Move away from! Now!" Lois yelled.

Steve took the gun out of Deadshot's hand and ran back just as she suggested. Lois and Steve stood back as they watched Deadshot go crazy.

"Get off of me! Stay away!" Deadshot yelled as he waved his arms around.

He fell to the floor, punching and kicking away at the frightening creatures only he could see.

"What was in that spray can?" Steve asked.

"Some of Scarecrow's fear toxin," said Lois. "I picked up a lot of items over the years from having to deal with all these people."

A FEW HOURS LATER

Steve took Lois to a safe house on the other side of Metropolis. They were going to stay there until the threat to Lois was definitely over. After they defeated Deadshot, he was taken away by ARGUS. He would be more likely sent back to Task Force X than actually see a jail cell. They also stitched up Steve's arm and took a statement from Lois about the situation before they left.

"It's just a temporary situation," said Steve. "Just until we determine the threat against you is over.

"I'm surprised ARGUS is going this far to protect me," said Lois. "I'm just a journalist."

"You also have a big connection with the superhero world," said Steve. "You've been very useful to them over the years, and in some cases very useful to us."

The safehouse wasn't much. For it to be effective, it needed to be less obvious. This meant it couldn't be a fancy penthouse, nor could it be in a rat-infested hotel. The place was at best a decent apartment in a hipster part of town.

They couldn't go back to Lois's apartment to get some clothes and risk being exposed to the next possible assassin. But Steve assured her the safehouse had plenty of clothes of all sizes to change into. The clothes, plus other amenities, were there to cover all bases so the persons under protection wouldn't have to venture outside for anything.

"I'm sorry the clothes aren't stylish," said Steve.

"For now, I just need to change into something to wear to bed."

Steve sat on the bed as he watched Lois pick out something to sleep in tonight. Steve was about to leave to give her some privacy as she changed, even though the only place he could go in a studio apartment was the bathroom. Then all of a sudden, Lois began taking her clothes off right in front of him. He said nothing as she got naked. He only saw her from her backside but got a glimpse of the sides of her breasts when she was getting dressed.

Steve thought Lois was a beautiful woman. She was about 5'6", athletic build, with shoulder-length dark hair and some nice curves. He suspected her breasts were a decent size D; not as big as Diana's breasts, but he could tell she had an excellent pair. Steve felt a little perverted watching her change her clothes and thinking of her sexually when he was there to protect her, but he couldn't resist. She was beautiful, and he was sure she didn't mind him looking since she was clearly changing in front of him on purpose.

At first, Lois didn't know what the hell she was doing when she began taking her clothes off like this. She thought she'd just change her shirt first, and it would be no big deal if Steve saw her in her bra. Then she started getting naked and not caring how it seemed to Steve. She guessed, deep down, she wanted to reward him for coming to her rescue by giving him a good show. She thought about finding an excuse to turn around and let her see her full-frontal nudity, then decided it would be too much.

She found some underwear that fit her, along with a white tank top and pink pajama bottoms. Tomorrow, she would go through everything in the safehouse to decide what's useful to her.

"You're bleeding," said Lois, pointing to Steve's arm.

Steve looked at his arm. The sleeve was cut off when the medic stitched him up, so his arm was bare except for the bandage covering it.

"It's alright, the stitches haven't broken; but sometimes it bleeds through," said Steve.

Lois offered to change his bandage. She had tended to a lot of wounds over the years for a variety of superheroes and could do this easily. Back at the Daily Planet, she even offered to stitch up his arm because she could do it so well, but ARGUS was already on its way with a medic, so she let the professional take care of him.

He told Lois where to find the first aid kit and she brought it over to him. Steve took his shirt off and was just wearing a tank-top undershirt. She sat down next to him on the bed as she began to take the bandage off his arm.

"I forgot to ask; how did you guys learn about Deadshot coming after me?" Lois asked.

Steve explained one of Batman's underworld connections informed him about the hit. Normally, Batman would take care of Deadshot himself, but he was in deep space on the same mission with Superman, Wonder Woman, and several other members of the Justice League. He did try to call other heroes back on earth to intervene, but none of them were available. Then he called ARGUS to get in touch with Steve Trevor to ask him for his help.

It turned out, several of Superman's calls and texts were to warn her about the threat against her. She only saw the first few messages when he was apologizing to her; if she just kept on reading, she would've seen the ones warning her about Deadshot. Lois realized if she hadn't ignored so many of his texts, she would've been long gone from the Daily Planet by now. She was fortunate that Steve was able to get to her in time.
