Chapter 49: The Uninvention of Computers
Chapter 49: The Uninvention of Computers
"Where are we going?"
The Bioman kept walking. Calle followed.
But then the Bioman walked off the path, into the mists. Calle halted for a moment. But then something, something inside of him, compelled him to go on.
He took a deep breath, and entered the mists. And he was lost.
With the Bioman, at his side.
"What now? Where do we go?"
The Bioman just looked at him, with those thick goggles, and those blazing orange eyes of power. As Calle watched, a bubble detached itself from his breather mask, floating upwards. Then another, and another.
Calle concentrated. Somehow, he knew where to go. He started walking. A short time later he came to a path. Hopefully, thepath. He was about to walk up it, when the Bioman shook his head.
"What? Isn't this the way out?"
The Bioman snapped his fingers, and the path disappeared.
"Why did you do that for?"
********
Calle wandered, and wandered and wandered. The Bioman followed him.
"You know, you're not the world's greatest conversationalist."
The Bioman put a hand on his shoulder and stopped him.
"What?" said Calle.
The Bioman pointed straight ahead.
"What?" Calle said again.
The Bioman just stared at him.
Calle sighed and reached out with his senses. Suddenly, he realized that more walking wasn't the answer. He concentrated, and somehow... he peeled away the mists... and there, straight ahead, was a doorway of light! A doorway that he knew that he himself had created!
He stepped out of the doorway and found himself on the grounds of Mohonk, in the middle of the night.
Calle was speechless. He had just designed his own exit point, without any external machinery to project it. He looked up at the Bioman, who nodded, ever so slightly, and then disappeared.
********
"Good morning!" said Marion, giving him a welcome kiss at breakfast. "How are you feeling?"
"Good," said Calle. "My legs are a little sore, though. All that walking."
Marion nodded. "But it was fun, wasn't it?"
"I wouldn't have missed it for the world," he said, reaching out and touching her cheek. Her eyelashes fluttered, she looked down, then up at him, and smiled.
********
As with most great inventions, the invention of the computer was spurred by the need for sex. J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly were two very smart guys who couldn't attract girls. Then Presper came up with the idea of gathering profiles of women, and men, and comparing them in a device which would provide matches.
"But what kind of device would that be?" John Mauchly asked.
"We'll call it... a com-puter," said Presper.
"Why?
"Hopefully, it will enable us to... come," said Presper, giving a sly grin.
And so UNIVAC was born.
********
Calle was called on to use his special skill to make a subtle alteration in the UNIVAC's programming so it would fail to work properly. Tom Stoyer could have sent any operative to sabotage it, but he wanted something undetectable, something that would discourage the further development of computers until it was created in the deep jungles of Africa, some 120 years in the future.
As Calle walked among the computer banks of the UNIVAC facility, doubts crept into his mind. Was he really restoring the timeline, or was he doing the bidding of Luddites who were attempting to destroy what was meant to be? Calle personally had doubts that the modern computer could ever have been developed in the Congo, but he wondered if his doubts were a manifestation of his unconscious racism. He was, after all, a racist, he realized. And so he reluctantly proceeded with the mission as planned.
Once again Marion was with him. He knew why she was there, but he enjoyed her company nonetheless. Just being around her excited him. Every extra minute he could be with her he considered a blessing. Calle suspected that sooner or later, his time with Marion would come to an end, and he wanted to enjoy every last minute of it.
Calle reached out with his Special Talent. Ever since his last encounter with the Bioman, he had felt it getting stronger and stronger. He could almost call it at will now. He walked by a computer bank... and then stopped and reversed himself. He started working on the circuits.
"I talked to Tom," Marion said, even as he worked. "He promised us more downtime after this mission."
"Did he?" said Calle, as he studied circuit boards.
"At least a few days," said Marion. "Maybe we could go back to Mohonk again. I... I find it's starting to grow on me."
Calle looked up at her, and smiled. "I find it's starting to grow on me too." But that's not what either of them meant, and they both knew it. When Marion smiled back at him, he looked at her, winked, and turned back to his work.
Maybe there was hope for them after all.
Calle had just finished adjusting the last circuit board when he felt a wind, and heard the distinct sound of a gateway opening.
A woman jumped out, then another and another.
"Who are you?" Calle cried. "What do you want?"
"We have come for you," said their leader, a blonde.
"You're not taking John anywhere!" Marion declared, putting her body in front of his.
"We don't want him, fool," said the blonde. "We want you!"
Marion squealed as the blonde pulled her into her arms. Calle reached for his compression pistol, but one of the other women kicked it out of his hands. He charged the woman who had kicked him, but the third woman knocked him down on the ground.
And then he heard the sound of a new gateway opening.
"John!" Marion cried, as the blonde dragged her in the gateway. As Calle got up, the second woman jumped into the gateway, and then the third. Calle followed them, just a split second before the gateway closed.
But the second and third women were waiting for him, just inside the Binochi Corridor. They tripped him as he entered, and kicked him off the path.
"Johhhhhhn!" Marion wailed, as she was carried off.
Calle looked around. He was lost again, in the mists.
********
"Shut down the Binochi Corridor," said the blonde, as soon as she and her fellow operatives cleared the gateway and entered their control room. The blonde had pulled and pushed Marion all the way up the Corridor with her.
"There ain't no one following us," said the second woman.
"Shut it down!" the blonde declared.
"No!" Marion cried. "John is still in there!"
Someone operated the controls, and the Binochi Corridor abruptly powered down. Marion cried out. "John!"
"There, there, little one," said the blonde, dragging Marion to a couch. "We'll tend to your needs now." She compelled Marion to sit down with her.
"Who are you? What do you want?" Marion asked.
"Well, my name is Chloe," said the blonde. "And that over there is McKenzie, and there is Brianna. We are seekers of justice, for women."
"Women who love women," said McKenzie, smiling knowingly.
Her hands started to play with Marion's hair.
"What... what do you want me with me?" Marion asked.
"We are looking for someone to give us inside information about the Continuity Corps," said Chloe, as her hands started to stray down Marion's body.
"I'm not going to tell you anything," Marion declared.
"Oh, but you will," said Chloe. She allowed a hand to squeeze one of Marion's breasts. They were soft but firm. "Oh, how I'm going to enjoy you."
"I'm... I'm not that way," said Marion.
"You will be, dear," said the one called Brianna. She approached Marion with syringe.
"What's in that?" Marion cried, shrinking away.
Chloe hugged her more tightly, even as she started to fondle Marion's teats. "That's Ellenphata 541," said Chloe. "It's a DNA modifier."
"What part of DNA does it modify?" Marion asked.
"Feelings of sexual attraction," said Chloe. "Let's just say that after this catalyst gets into your system, you will love women who love women."
"And that man, the one you seemed to be so hot and bothered about? You won't give him a second thought," Brianna assured her, holding up the syringe and smiling.
"No!" Marion cried.
Brianna gestured with her syringe hand. "Hold her tight, Chloe. I don't want her to jump."
Marion tried to struggle, but Chloe held her down.
"That's a good girl," said Brianna, as she slowly moved the syringe closer to Marion's arm. And then she abruptly turned, as she heard a new sound-
And all of a sudden, John Calle appeared, literally out of nowhere, in the middle of the control room. There was no gateway, no Corridor. He simply... appeared.
And he had a faint orange glow along the edges of his body.
The girls' eyes widened in surprise.
McKenzie was the first to charge him. Calle backhanded her, sending her sprawling.
Another woman punched him in the stomach. Calle didn't even flinch. He grabbed her by the arm, and sent her flying across the room like a toy.
Brianna snarled and charged Calle, raising the syringe like a weapon. Calle reached out and grabbed her, almost faster than Marion could see. He held her up by the neck, like a chicken, and squeezed. There was a cracking and a popping sound as the bones in Brianna's neck were compressed, and then Calle threw her lifeless body across the room.
Marion pushed away from Chloe. Chloe frantically drew her sidearm, a compression pistol.
"I wouldn't," said Calle, calmly walking up to her, totally unafraid.
Chloe looked at her pistol, and then John Calle, with his grim expression, and the glowing orange line outline around his body. She dropped the pistol with a clatter and fled.
"Oh John!" said Marion, leaping into his arms. "How did you find me? I thought you were lost!" She kissed him passionately.
Calle kissed her back.
"You were lost, in the Corridor. I saw it," Marion whispered.
Calle shook his head. "I can never be lost again."
********
When they returned to the Continuity Corps base, Tom Stoyer was ecstatic. As far as he was concerned, the mission was a success. The timeline had been restored; the invention of the computer was now recorded as happening in the early 21st century, in the heart of Africa.
They didn't tell him what had happened to Marion. Calle had stopped glowing shortly after he strangled Brianna. As far as Tom was concerned, they simply returned once their mission was accomplished. As promised, they were given time off.
Marion hugged John. "Mohonk, John?"
"Always."
Chapter 50: Marion
Chapter 50: Marion
They arrived in Mohonk on a Friday night. When they went to check in, Calle's eyebrows went up.
Marion had only reserved a single room. She looked at him as she repeated her reservation to the desk clerk, looked at Calle, blushed, smiled, and abruptly looked away.
As soon as they entered the room, she flew into his arms, and kissed him furiously. "Make love to me, John Calle."
"As a reward?" Calle asked, as he kissed her back. "As a thank you for a job well done?"
"No," said Marion, as she kissed his nose, cheeks, and lips. "Because I want you."
********
It was all Marion.
Calle's penis thrust inside of Marion's vagina. He groaned and ached with pleasure. Her breasts were large and firm, that perfect teardrop shape he loved so much, exactly as he remembered them. Her areolas were red and large, and her nipples were long and suckable. They made the exact same popping sound when Calle pulled one out of his mouth, and Marion made the same exact giggling sound as he orally pleasured her teats.
Her thick, lush triangle of pubic hair was exactly like it should be. Her red, wet vaginal lips, super sensitive to the touch, were identical. As Calle thrust inside of her, her soft, moist vaginal walls rubbed the head of his penis in the exact same way.
As Marion held onto him, she had the exact same look in her eyes, of love, of lust, of adoration.
It was all Marion.
As he thrust inside of her, Calle realized that she was not a virgin. Unlike his Marion, he hadn't been able to take this Marion's virginity. But in a different way it was actually more exciting. Marion was with a man named Paul, a man named Paul who had presumably pleasured Marion with a big hairy penis of his own.
But now Paul was not here, and he was. Calle was cuckolding poor Paul. With each thrust into his woman, Calle realized that he was turning her a little more away from Paul and more towards him. As Marion gasped with sexual pleasure as she looked into his eyes, her love for him was being imprinted into her brain, becoming a little stronger. Before long she would never think of Paul again. She would want only him.
The thought of it, of taking another man's woman and making her his own, especially when that other woman was Marion Thomas, excited Calle without end. He stiffened, and cried out, and flooded her with his semen. And then, after a moment's rest, he made sure her needs were taken of, quite thoroughly.
Marion was puzzled as she found herself gasping with pleasure as he inserted himself in her at an angle that allowed his shaft to rub her clitoris. "How... how do you know to do this?" she asked.
"Because I know my Marion Thomases," said Calle cockily. He immediately worried he had said the wrong thing, but Marion just hugged him tighter and gave him a loving grin, as she enjoyed the incredible friction of his shaft in just the right places.
********
"You are such an incredible man. And an incredible lover," Marion added, kissing him the following morning.
It was like a dream. A dream come true. Marion, back from the dead, having sex with him at Mohonk. Calle was ecstatic. But at the same time, he wondered how long it would last.
That morning, after a hearty breakfast of eggs and toast and Marion's warm smile, they went to the gardens and saw some amazing bright blue flowers. Marion didn't get naturegasms like the other Marion, but she still enjoyed the outdoors and nature.
Then they walked around the lake, and then climbed the Labyrinth.ThisMarion had never climbed the Labyrinth before. She squealed and laughed as they went into caves created by huge boulders and climbed up out of them using wooden ladders. Experiencing Marion's reaction made it all feel new for Calle as well. When they finally worked their way out of the narrow crevice on top, Marion was so relieved that she hugged and kissed Calle as they sat on a large rock and admired the view. They could see the Shawungunk ridge line going on for miles and miles
"It's so beautiful here," Marion whispered. Her hand was squeezing his. "This is a special place. I can see why you liked it so much... whysheliked it so much."
Calle nodded. He enjoyed just being with Marion. It still felt like a dream, so fragile, something which could easily....
"John... would you mind if I asked you something?"
"No, go ahead," said Calle. Here it comes....
"Am I... am I much like her?"
Calle looked at Marion, at her feeling of uncertainty, and realized how much had truly changed in the short time he had known her. When they had first met, she had been his appointed seductress. She had no feelings for him, but was just--reluctantly--doing a job. But all that had changed. She was falling in love with him. He could feel it. The fact that she was jealous of Marion, the other Marion, only proved it.
"You're a lot like her," said Calle, watching her thick dark hair sway in the gentle breeze.
"But not identical," Marion interpreted. She let the fingers of her hand run across his arm. "So... how am I different?"
"I don't know," said Calle evasively.
"John?" said Marion, with a smile.
"Well...." What could he say? "Marion was always shy... about her body," he said, giving a quick glance to her breasts. Marion was wearing a tight, low cut shirt which clearly showed the inner sides of her juicy oval shaped melons. How he loved to suck on them at night by the roaring fireplace!
"You mean these?" Marion laughed, cupping her breasts from below. From the way that Calle's eyes got wide, she knew she was right. "When I was in high school, they used to call me "Big Titties Thomas."
"And don't forget Mammary Marion," said Calle.
"Yeah," said Marion. "My sister Chloe has much smaller ones... she was always jealous... she sometimes called me that... but how did you know that?"
"Because I know you," said Calle, and he saw Marion blush. He pretended not to notice. "Anyway, Marion was shy about her body, and so covered up a lot."
"I did that too," said Marion. "At least, until I met Paul-" she abruptly stopped, and looked down, feeling embarrassed. Then she looked up. "Did your Marion... was she seeing Paul too?"
"Not in that way," said Calle. "I... I was her.. her...."
"Her first," said Marion, giving him a knowing look.
"Yes," said Calle, and now he was the one who was turning red, though he wasn't sure why.
"I'm sorry, John," she said, leaning against his face with her soft cheeks, and putting one of his hands on her even softer breasts. "Can you ever forgive me?"
She is definitely different from Marion in some ways!
Calle suddenly shifted uncomfortably, pulling his shirt out of his pants so that it covered his shorts.
Marion looked down and giggled. "Oh.. oh... I didn't mean to-"
Now Calle was really red.
"You must have found her very, very attractive," said Marion, turning her face so her lips were just athwart from his.
"I... I did," Calle admitted. And then he leaned in and made the natural connection. He would always remember the feeling of the sun on his body, and the gentle wind in his hair, as he kissed Marion on top of that rock, with an open vista of hundreds of miles around them.
When Marion pulled back, she gave him a look, a look that told him that something had passed between them, something important. They were making aconnection.
"What else?" she whispered.
"What else?" said Calle, trying to concentrate as he felt her hands roaming his body. "Well, you're a little more flirtatious than Marion was."
"A little?" Marion grinned. "You mean, because of the way I touch you?" she said, rubbing her hand over his groin.
"Marion!" Calle cried, looking around.
"Relax, we're 400 feet up, who can see us?" And she leaned in and gave him another kiss.
It lasted a while this time. When Marion pulled back, she said, "Did she kiss you like that?"
"Not like that," Calle gasped, thoroughly aroused. For some reason Marion looked incredibly pleased. She feels competitive. Competitive with a woman who no longer exists.
"How else was she different?" Marion persisted.
"Well... she had naturegasms."
"Naturegasms?" said Marion.
"Yeah," said Calle. "That's what she loved about Mohonk, the great outdoors. She could look at an alpine lake, or a beautiful view, or a lovely rock formation, and... and..."
"Yes?"
"Get kind of... aroused," said Calle. Somehow, he felt defensive telling Marion about Marion.
Marion laughed hysterically.
"Stop that!" Calle cried.
She kept giggling, but tried to calm herself. "No, really? I mean, like you could be sitting here with her, looking at the view--which is truly gorgeous, by the way--and she could be like this? Ah... ah.... Aaaaahhhhhh!" Marion started to purposefully bounce up and down, so that her breasts jiggled. She opened her mouth wide and made her eyes looked glazed. "Aaaaahhhhh!" she cried out, as she experienced a mock orgasm.
"Stop that!" said Calle, tickling her.
"Make me!" Marion cried, cackling louder.
Calle tickled her harder.
