James Blonde

James Blonde sat quietly in her seat, eyes glaring coldly at Doctor No, who sat relaxed in his leather chair, going off on the typical villain monologue about his life and plans. She listened impatiently as he described his early years as a SLUTS (Special Legion of Underworld, Terrorists and Seditionists) operative, and how they had chopped off both his hands as punishment for stealing money from their accounts. Luckily he had extensive cyber security skills and a friend in the Chinese government who took pity on him, so he was able to get his current assignment running China's secret hacking facility here; Doctor No foolishly revealed that the location was picked by Mander because several fiberoptic trunks of undersea network cabling passed by this island, which allowed Doctor No to secretly add taps to these cables to listen in plus connect directly to the North American internet.

"Where is Ryder?"

"This island is called Crab Key. It is called by that name because it is infested with crabs, land crabs - what they call in Jamaica 'black crabs'. You know them. They weigh about a pound each and they are as big as saucers. At this time of year, they come out in thousands from their holes near the shore and climb up towards the mountain. There, in the coral uplands, they go to the ground again in holes in the rock and spawn their brood. They march up in armies of hundreds at a time. They march up everything and over everything. In Jamaica, they go through houses that are in their path. They are like the lemmings of Norway. It is a compulsive migration." Doctor No paused. Then his voice became a cold, cruel whisper: "But there is a difference. The crabs devour what they find in their path. And at present, women, they are 'running'. They are coming up the mountainside in their tens of thousands, great red, orange, and black waves of them, scuttling, hurrying, and scraping against the rock above us at this moment. And tonight, in the middle of their path, they are going to find the naked body of a man pegged out - a banquet spread for them - and they will feel the warm body with their feeding pincers, and one will make the first incision with his fighting claws...and then...and then..."

Blonde attempted to lunge at Doctor No but the guards pressed down on her shoulders, trapping her in her chair.

"You fucking bastard!" Blonde cursed at him seethingly, the rage boiling her blood.

"As for you Miss Blonde, I have a task I'm sure a young woman like yourself will enjoy. You will be the star of your very own Survivor show; we will be most entertained watching a beautiful woman like yourself survive being just voted off the island," he said with a wicked smile on his face.

The guards threw Blonde into a cave and slammed a heavy metal door shut behind her, leaving her barefoot wearing only the bikini she arrived in. Convinced she was now out of Doctor No's surveillance net, she took a deep breath and dived again; since she was still near his hacking bunker, she suspected his wire tap onto the undersea internet lines was nearby. After some search, she saw a wire on the seabed but was startled by a pair of large approaching eyes.

Blonde quickly swam to shallow water and managed to get away from whatever it was, plus get a good look at it. It was a Humboldt Squid and was roughly the size of her including its tentacles, which were lined with sharp-teethed suckers. Since the squid was native to the Eastern Pacific Ocean, she surmised that Doctor No, in typical megalomaniacal fashion, had this one brought here to protect his wiretap. She needed a way to get around it and sever the wiretap quickly, then get back to find Ryder.

Grabbing a large rock while still holding her two small ones, Blonde dived into the water and headed straight for the wiretap, and as predicted, the Humboldt Squid swam straight at her, its fins and head icily still as it closed in. She kept swimming straight at it, and waited for it to flip around so its tentacles and beak were facing her, then pushed the boulder as hard as she could at the squid. Her training as an SBS operator paid off, and she was able to hurl the boulder quickly enough so that it slipped between the tentacles and struck the squid in the beak. Its eyes opened wide in pain, and as she hoped, it wrapped its tentacles around the boulder and rotated to toss the boulder onto the seabed, bringing its head dangerously close to Blonde. Now in range, Blonde used the rocks in each of her hands to slam as hard as she could underwater onto its eyes, successfully striking both eyeballs and causing the squid immense pain. It immediately swam away as quickly as it could, giving Blonde all the time she needed to break the wiretap with her rocks, and surface in time to breathe.

Remembering Doctor No's words, Blonde went up the sloped side of the mountain, scaling the steep slope with just her bare hands and feet, where she managed to find Ryder, tied to some pegs in the ground. Luckily the crabs had not reached this point yet, but she hurriedly undid his bonds and taking his hand, ran back down the side of the mountain towards the bunker. When they arrived, they saw a crane loading what appeared to be manure from a septic tank into a garbage bin for transport to a disposal facility. Nearby stood Doctor No, directing the operation.

After telling Ryder to hide behind some boulders, Blonde carefully snuck towards the crane, and before its operator realized, pulled him out and hit him hard on the back of the head with a rock so that he would collapse unconscious, which he did. She then took control of the crane, and while Doctor No was distracted, dumped a load of manure onto him, suffocating him under the guano.

Later that night, after calling the US Coast Guard, securing the bunker, shutting down the Chinese cyberespionage operation there, and notifying Jamaican police, Blonde and Ryder returned to Jamaica, where Blonde eagerly drove Ryder back to his flat. During their drive, Ryder was also very eager, and his hands from time to time roamed her legs while she drove. After entering his flat, they pulled the curtains and shades down for privacy, and entered his bedroom together, holding hands.
