Rise of the Lone Wolf Guardians

This is a story ive been working on for a long time. if your expecting sexual stuff from the start turn away now. it will take a while to get to. enjoy the read and leave me your thoughts in the comments.

Word from the Author

What would you say if I told you science fiction like the stuff you are about to read isn't that far off? I know I know you would call me crazy. As a kid I loved science and physics, still do. Every day technology is advancing and our understanding of this universe is growing. I may not see some of the achievements I'm writing about come to fruition in my lifetime but I'm hoping this book will inspire others today and in the future to keep searching for ways to better the world.

My other passion growing up was mythology. Particularly ancient creatures such as dragons, phoenixes, etc. Now everyone says they were just fantasies made up but let me remind you that every myth is rooted in a source of fact. I grew up reading the Arthurian legends along with books like Harry Potter, The Shannarra Chronicles, and other fantasy novels of the like and they inspired a good portion of my writing.

So I really hope you enjoy this first book of mine and I hope that it inspires you to follow your own dreams.

Prologue

"Get down! They are coming over the ridge!" The shout came from a grey skinned being that was slender and had a bulbous head, behind it were a group of similar beings. The group was running through a dense wooded and mountainous area. Far behind them there were shouts and yells and a group of waving flickering lights that could be seen rushing through the dense thicket of trees.

As the group ducks into a cave, seemingly out of sight, an elderly being comes forward holding a strange metal box. Opening the lid, it revealed six large different colored gemstones that sparkled even in the darkness. "We must hide the power gems from the humans. The creatures entrusted us with the last of their powers which they channeled into these gems."

"We can always hide it when we get off the planet," replied the first being, seeming to be the leader of the little band.

"That isn't possible, a few of us have sustained life threatening injuries and won't make it much longer. Our only hope is to hide it here on the planet with the last of our life force, sealing the box away for the chosen ones. That way if the chosen ones do end up being any species they will more than likely to come to this planet as it's in the middle of thousands of interplanetary trade and travel routes." Another of the grey life-forms piped up from the middle of the group, its arm limp and bleeding black fluid from the gash running along the back of it.

The flickering lights were getting closer which led the rest of the group to voice their agreement with the sealing of the box. They were all dedicated to the mission and were willing to give their life for it. As the group of lights were only a few meters away from their hiding place the group huddled together and they started to glow as they gave their life force to seal the box.

Seeing the glow, a voice said, "They are over there!" The lights started rushing closer before a massive flash and pillar of light drowned out the light of the torches, causing the people holding them to stop in their tracks. In the place where the strange beings had been huddled together, sat a molten lump of see through material where the strange shiny metal box was suspended.

As the light dissipated only the light of the torches remained. A human with dark skin stepped into the light. He looked down at the box in the lump of strange clear metal. Turning to the rest of his people who were dressed in aboriginal garb like himself, he spoke the following words: "The strange creatures are no more, they gave their lives to protect this container. We shall build a village around this to protect and learn of this strange object."

Chapter 1: The Beginning

Year 2236, 518 years after the Great Flash Incident.

"Raven, it's almost time for school, get your butt downstairs!" A female voice yelled from the main floor of the 3-level house.

"I'm coming down shortly mom, just packing my bag for the trip." A deep voice yelled down the stairs. A few minutes later, there were sounds of heavy footfalls coming down the stairs.

Hitting the floor, a young man straightened out his body with a groan. He was 6' tall with wide shoulders and a slender yet toned body that showed he spent time working out. His green eyes shown with excitement from under his short unkempt blonde hair. He was wearing a blue t-shirt and a pair of khaki shorts, wrapped around his waist was a climbing harness with a length of rope and a climbing axe hanging from it. Slinging a backpack over his shoulder he walked into the kitchen to greet his mother.

"Are you excited for your trip, honey?" His mom asked him as she pulled out a pre-packed lunch for him along with a couple bottles of water and a Gatorade. His mom stood at a shorter height of 5 feet with long dirty blonde hair and grey eyes. She wore a smile on her face.

"Yeah mom. I've been psyched for this trip since graduation, it's not every day you get to go on an archeological dig in basically your own backyard. I mean I have explored the ruins that were safe, but I've never gone deeper. We will have the best equipment with us to help keep us safe."

"I still want you to be safe and very wary of your surroundings in that old village. We may have come a long way with technology but if you don't have the common sense to be aware of your surroundings you can still get hurt," she told her son. "Have you decided what you are going to do at university yet?"

He looked at his petite mother thoughtfully and replied, "I have. I've decided to take technological engineering. They have a great program and schedule and with all my scholarships in athletics and academics my course will be fully covered."

"That's great honey, I am so proud of you. You have always been great with your hands and inventing things." She looked at the clock and gasped. "You better hurry Raven you are going to be late."

"Right! Let me just pack the last of my tools and my lunch." Grabbing a piece of toast from the plate in the center of the kitchen island, he quickly stuffed his lunch and the pack of tools that was hanging from the coat rack in his bag. He kissed his mother on the cheek as he rushed past her to the door. "Have a good day mom and I'll see you for dinner tonight!"

As he got to the doorway, he sat on the bench and slipped on his shoes then the power-gliders, an engineering marvel of the century that could allow the person wearing them to float above the ground and traveled much faster than traditional roller-skates. He ran out the doorway and jumped in the air activating his power-gliders with his watch.

He sped along the sidewalk as he listened to his music playlist through his ear buds. As he traveled to his school to meet his teacher and fellow classmates, he thought about what his mother had said.

She had been right about technology improving over the last century. It had radically improved over the last two centuries with phones being replaced by chips implanted in the brain as soon as you turned 6 years old. Transportation had switched from tires to hover generators and some modes of transportation had been given the ability to have auto pilot. With all the radical improvements to technology the need for sustainable energy had drastically increased, so approximately 150 years back the energy crisis had been solved. It had been done by a team of gifted college students who created a self-sustaining electrical repeater generator and 5 years after that they had managed to miniaturize them.

It eliminated the need for fossil fuels but that created a crisis in the flow of power. The governments were soon abolished and humanity had turned to a court and military governed system to resolve conflicts. This led to an era of peace that had been ongoing for a long-time now, but as we all know peace can't always last forever when it comes to humanity....

"Raven, over here!" He was snapped out of his train of thought as he had automatically navigated to his school. His attention was drawn over to a 5'5 blonde-haired green-eyed girl bouncing up and down in a thin purple cashmere sweater and short pleated skirt that was waving at him.

He glided to a stop in front of her and deactivated his gliders settling slowly onto the ground as they cooled down and shut off. "Hey Angel, how are you doing today?" he asked her giving her a playful but gentle hug.

"You're late Raven! But I'm fine thanks for asking." She huffed out her reply giving him a disgruntled pout before smiling when he hugs her. They had been friends since childhood, living in the same neighborhood and playing with the five other children that had been part of their neighborhood group. She was a very energetic person but very by the book when it came to the rules, the only time she ever went against the rules was when Raven talked her into it.

"Eh you know me, was lost in my thoughts. I got here before the group left though so I'm not that late."

"That's not the point Raven, you should have been here earlier." She pouted and poked him in the ribs, making him wince a bit.

"Give the guy a break Angel, out of all of us he is the one the teacher would have waited for. We are basically going for a trip into his backyard." A deep and gruff voice piped up, letting them know the rest of the group had walked over to join Raven and Angel. The voice belonged to a 7' tall beast of a man, his hair was trimmed right down to the scalp leaving just a shadow of black hair. He was wearing a muscle shirt that showed off his large muscular upper body and a pair of khaki shorts with a pair of black climbing shoes.

"Thanks Jason," Raven replied as he held out his hand for the large man to shake. With a firm grasp, they clasped hands then released, as Jason moved back Raven saw the rest of their group. Their group consisted of nine people, two of which were talking away from the others around a pile of boxes. Besides Raven, Angel and Jason, there were four other students that had signed up for the expedition to the old village site.

The four were a pair of Asian fraternal twins, a tall girl and a tanned boy. The twins were 5'7 and had black hair, one was a boy and the other a girl. Their names were Lee and Yumi Chang. Their bodies were lean and slender from a life of doing martial arts and acrobatics. Lee was a formidable athlete on the soccer field as a forward striker while Yumi was a tactical genius, being a Champion chess player and already well on her way to being named a master. The next person was the tall girl, she had shoulder length brown hair and a firm almost muscular body. Standing at 5'10, her name was Dina Mitchell and she was the little sister of Jason, at the age of 16 she had already advanced a grade to come up to par with her brother. She had outstanding grades and was planning on going into the field of medicine, having already been accepted into a prestigious medical school on full scholarship. The last student of their group was a tanned short haired young man standing at a 5'4 height. He went by the name of Jordan Manx and was the most cunning of their group having been the school prankster up until his final year, where he had matured and decided to put his cunning talents to use helping his fellow classmates.

The two people standing over by the pile of boxes which were supplies for the archeological expedition had looked over at the group of students. One was a middle-aged man with sandy blonde hair and green eyes wearing a pair of glasses named Kyle Wessex and he was the archeological lead and history teacher for the group. The other was younger with a dark skin complexion and short black hair and slightly shorter than the norm for his race. He was the teacher's assistant and his name was Joseph Meeks. The two were discussing which of the students would lead this expedition and after a few minutes of deliberating had finally come to a decision.

They walked over to the group of young people and cleared their throats. "Attention ladies and gentlemen," Mr. Wessex said, looking at his students. "Now that we are all gathered and ready to go, Mr. Meeks and myself have made a decision on who will lead this dig."

The group all looked at each other at this then back to their teacher and his assistant, waiting to hear their decision.

Looking at the students, Mr. Wessex cleared his throat and said clearly, "We have decided that today our dig leader will be Raven Night. A lot of factors played into our decision but first and foremost the deciding factor was the area in which the site is. Raven knows the area best as it is part of the property his family owns. His commands will carry the same weight as our own so be sure to listen."

Raven turned to his classmates and teachers and opened his mouth to speak up. "I will do my best to make sure this expedition is fun and productive for everyone. The area is dangerous in some parts so we will have to take great care to avoid those places. It is a bit of a journey to the site even from my house and we will have to pass over two rivers and through some thick brush. Now let's load up and head out!"

With the speeches over, the students and teachers set out loading the 3 hoversleds. Once the hover sleds were loaded they started gearing up, putting on their tool belts, power gliders, backpacks and hands-free radio sets. With that done they headed out on the expedition that would change all of their lives.
