This is a fictional account of an interview with me, but it answers some of the questions I have been asked over the years. The questions are in bold below and I have answered as fully and honestly as I can.

Where did your pen name, Shady Lady, come from?

It was a pen name bestowed on me by my two subs many years ago when I first started writing. I was scared people would laugh so wanted to hide my own name. 'Shady' refers to the somewhat secretive nature of my employment back then and 'Lady' my involvement with D/s. Since then, I have grown in confidence and added 'Julie', being my name, to it.

Are you still into D/s

I was a long time ago, but it is behind me now. I still carry a lot of love and respect for the scene and the wonderful people within it.

You write across many genres, what are your favourites?

I write to please others hence the wide variety. Everyone is different, but if I had to pick a favourite genre it would be lesbian love stories.

Are you a lesbian?

Not anymore. I was for a couple of years when I was 20 and lived with a woman twice my age, but came to realise that good or bad, people are not dictated by genders. I enjoy the company of both sexes so consider myself truly bisexual.

What is your biggest fantasy?

It varies with the wind as some days it might be a gang bang, another time double penetration, and another being seduced or seducing, a sexy woman. I enjoy most things and have done many. If it had to be something I hadn't done, then it would have to be double vaginal penetration. The thought of two cocks inside me at the same time sends shivers through me.

Do you masturbate when you are writing?

Strangely enough I try to avoid it, especially when writing a sex scene. I do get excited but would like to think that the lack of release adds a tension that manifests itself in my writing.

Now that's different. I often masturbate while chatting depending on the topic of conversation. The freedom I have depends on my circumstances outside of online.

What hurts you the most in a writing context?

Spiteful comments with no constructive criticism."Shit,"means nothing,"This is shit because etc...,"helps me develop.

Does your husband know about your online activities?

He knows nothing of my online life or what I do or enjoy.

What would happen if he found out?

In the best-case scenario, he would laugh and make me stop. If he read what I had written, then I think the outcome would be very dire indeed. Most certainly my writing career would cease.

Do you cheat?

I will not lie and by the definition of the word yes. I believe that what he doesn't know can't hurt him.

Do you think he cheats?

He was in the army, and I know he spent time away and will have had opportunities. I think he will have taken those opportunities, but like me chooses not to rub them in my face.

Where do you get the inspiration for your stories from?

A variety of places. Firstly, many are memories of things I have done and experienced over the years. I will also read something entirely unconnected or watch a film and it will spark an "I wonder" or "what if," thought in my head. I also chat and have been told many scenes I weave into stories. Sometimes at the other person's request, sometimes because their words inspire me.

How much of your stories are true?

The Julie Journals are pretty much all true although I have changed a few names in places and sped up timelines to avoid 'boring' readers. In other stories I sometimes base a character on myself and use my own name. Some of the scenes may have an element of truth, but the overarching story is not true. I have been told stories by other people as being true but have no way of verifying so take their word on faith.

What do you think of us readers?

Without readers, writers would just be the angry old people shouting at the pigeons in the park. Each and every one is valuable to me and from the bottom of my heart I want you to enjoy reading.
