Sisterhood 101 Ch. 03

Hey everyone, here's Chapter 03 of Sisterhood 101. This series should be considered a direct sequel to Birthday Pool Party. However, it is my hope that it can also be read as a standalone work. Having already read Birthday Pool Party will greatly enhance the experience, but it shouldn't be required. I hope you enjoy! Comments and feedback are always appreciated! I read every single one. Also, please let me know if you spot any mistakes. I upload revisions all the time, and I will correct any errors that are pointed out to me. Just make sure to be specific so that I can find what you're talking about.

I don't know how long it'll be between chapters, since I have a few other things going on at once. It's my hope that I can do more time skips than I did during Birthday Pool Party. These first few chapters don't cover long time periods so that I could ease new readers into the plot. There are a lot of plot points in this one and I didn't want to overload people with information. Even if you read Birthday Pool Party, this story will have a few new characters in just the first chapters. Also remember that BPP was a coming of age story; the ladies have a past which will become relevant!

Please note that this story is a work of fiction. I might use parody names for pop culture references: including songs, books, movies, and celebrities. However, they are not meant to accurately represent the real people or media. This is a fictional universe. As always, this is a world without STI's, and everyone involved in sexual activity is at least eighteen years old.

-Witty

WARNING: I write slice of life stories, but they touch on some serious topics. As a result, there's a lot to offer, but there's also things some might not like. This story contains elements of incest and it touches on sexual assault. If any of that is going to be a problem for you, you might want to consider a different story. Additionally, the women in this story tend to be very sex positive, if you're not interested in a woman being with anyone but one guy forever... why are you reading a group sex story?

One of the most frustrating things in the world was lying comfortably in bed and suddenly needing to pee. I wanted to go back to sleep, but the pressure only got worse until I surrendered and sat up. Kayla wasn't in bed with me anymore, but I was in her bedroom. I frowned as I sort-of remembered her waking up and moving around. I had grumbled at her before putting a pillow over my head.

I slipped out of bed naked and used Kayla's private bathroom. Then I put on my clothes from the previous night and checked my phone. Kayla was already at her first class and Lexi had to at least be on her way to CSUA. Steven and Nicole would have left for work. I made my way to the dining room alone, hoping Maggie hadn't cleaned up after breakfast. To my surprise, someone was still sitting at the table with a cup of coffee.

"Good morning, Hazel," Steven smiled at me. "How'd you sleep?"

"Not long enough," I answered honestly. "Why are you here?"

"I live here, remember?" he smirked before gesturing at the clean table with his coffee mug. "Want me to make you something for breakfast?"

I was going to refuse, but I felt my stomach gurgle. Blushing slightly, I placed a hand on my barely-swollen tummy. "If it isn't too much trouble?"

"Not at all," he replied, getting to his feet. "What are you craving?"

"Just because I'm pregnant doesn't mean every meal is some big craving," I rolled my eyes as he stared at me flatly. I blushed a moment later. "Bacon, please. Lots of bacon."

"I'm not just making you a plate of bacon," Steven said. "What do you want with it."

"Don't care, as long as there's bacon," I grinned.

"Scrambled eggs and toast it is," he shook his head as he left for the kitchen.

Pulling out a chair, I sat at the table and played on my phone. Marcia and Ashley didn't have class until 11:00AM, and Ashley was still asleep. I texted with Marcia, who was reading in her dorm while listening to Ashley snore. In addition to texting, I also browsed social media and got depressed seeing everyone post about their great college experiences.

Steven eventually returned, struggling to carry everything while not dropping the plate or spilling my drink. My breakfast consisted of the promised scrambled eggs and toast, as well as a beautiful mountain of bacon. He also placed utensils and a glass of orange juice in front of me before taking his seat.

"Thank you," I smiled before sipping my juice. "Ah! I love orange juice, but I do miss coffee."

"I'd get decaf, but we both know Kayla considers it sacrilege," Steven chuckled.

"That girl does love her coffee," I commented, picking up a piece of bacon and biting into it. "Mm, bacon."

"Bacon, chicken wings, chips, pickles," he counted on his fingers. "Did I miss anything?"

"Peanut butter," I reminded him of one of my other main cravings.

"Right, right," Steven nodded.

"I'll also never say no to anything greasy or spicy," I reminded him. "Ideally greasy and spicy."

"That one I knew," he chuckled.

"Did Nicole leave for work?" I asked before taking a bite of eggs.

"Yeah, a little while ago," Steven answered. "Lexi and Kayla already left for school."

"Are you taking the day off?" I frowned.

"Nah, just going in late," he shook his head. "I thought I'd take a look at your car."

"Oh," I let out a nervous breath. "I texted you about that."

"At 4:00AM," Steven added. "It felt like a drunk text, but you weren't drunk."

"I was half-asleep, same thing," I blushed, remembering waking up and writing a paragraph about how grateful I was for everything.

We continued talking quietly while I ate my breakfast. The food was really good and I told Steven he should stop making the housekeeper cook so much. It was nice talking with Steven alone, and I even flirted with him a little. He was sexy as hell, and teasing him made me forget that I was supposed to be in college with the others.

I followed Steven outside after breakfast so he could look at my car. He popped the hood while I stood a few steps back, my arms wrapped around myself as I awaited the verdict. We were both still dressed in pajamas, not wanting to shower before possibly getting greasy. Soft wind caressed my face, bringing some relief from the Southern California heat.

Steven didn't say anything as he leaned in, one hand braced on the frame while the other moved things aside. I watched his face more than what he was looking at, noticing the way his brow furrowed as he worked. His mouth was set in that thoughtful line I recognized from all the other moments where he was trying to figure something out.

"I'm sorry," I mumbled before I could stop myself, my chest tightening.

He glanced back immediately. "For what?"

"The noise. The stupid light. All of it," I gestured vaguely at the car. "I know it's old."

"Well, we know the battery's new," Steven smirked, reminding me of when the car died at the Noble Star Motel.

I just rolled my eyes as he went back to work. Steven checked fluid levels, using a rag to remove the oil from the long metal stick. He looked concerned, and I let out a breath as I noticed a smear of grease across his knuckles. How bad was it? How could he tell without it even running?

"How long has it been running rough?" he eventually asked.

"Uh, since I got it," I admitted with a wince. "It was really bad last night. The light came on and it was making noise. I was worried it wouldn't even make it home and didn't want to mention it with all the shit about the subpoenas. It was just one more stupid thing."

"I understand," Steven said kindly. "Did it smell hot, like it was burning oil? Sweet?"

"Uh, cars can smell sweet?" I mumbled.

"It means there's a coolant leak," he explained.

"Oh," I responded. "Uh, no. No weird smells. It just kept hesitating and making noises like it was mad at me."

Steven exhaled slowly, making me even more nervous. He then told me to start the car. I winced as the engine coughed, struggling to start. It was rattling, the stupid check engine light was still on, and it made me think it might just die at any second. I didn't know anything about cars, but even I could tell something was very wrong. Correction. I knew one thing about cars; something very wrong meant something very expensive.

"Okay, you can turn it off," Steven called out.

He was resting his hands on the closed hood when I got out of the car. "Is it that bad?"

"I'm not going to guess," Steven shook his head. "I'm not a mechanic, but it doesn't sound good."

"I can take it to a mechanic," I offered quickly. "I can figure it out. I don't need-"

"We'll take it to a mechanic," he interrupted me with a firm voice. "Together. We'll see what they say before making a decision."

"N-no, I can't ask you to do that," I stammered. "I already owe yo-"

"Nothing," Steven said quickly. "You owe me nothing. We're family, this is what we do. Everyone has car trouble, it's nothing to be ashamed about. How about I drive your car and you follow me to the mechanic in mine?"

Ashwood Auto was a full-service repair shop that did everything from basic work to paint jobs and custom builds for exotic cars. The guy who checked us in was a few years older than me and was clearly checking me out. His name tag said "Jayden" and he was a taller guy with brown hair and tattoos on his arms. The tattoos were kind of sexy, but I let Steven do the talking to avoid flirting.

Steven and I sat down to wait while they looked at my car. I looked at him with a small smile. "Did you ever think about getting a tattoo?"

"When Aria died, yeah," Steven answered, looking at me. "I never did though. Why?"

"Just thinking," I shrugged.

"Random thing to think about," he observed, seeming confused.

"I'm an enigma," I giggled, grateful he was oblivious to the employee checking me out. "Speaking of enigmas, how's Detective Mclorn?"

"She's alright," Steven answered slowly. "Her ribs still hurt, but it could have been a lot worse. The vest saved her life."

"I can't believe she got shot," I swallowed weakly.

"That was terrifying," he agreed. "Then with everything that happened on campus. I'm glad Kayla and Lexi are living at home."

"Marcia and Ashley were really shaken," I added. "That girl lived on their floor."

"I know," Steven let out a breath. "I know."

We fell into an uneasy silence as I tried not to think about my stupid car. The waiting room smelled like burnt coffee and motor oil, and I couldn't stop fidgeting as I sat on the edge of the plastic chair. I felt Steven's hand on my knee, trying to reassure me. I squeezed his hand, silently thanking him.

An older guy came out of the back room and spoke with Jayden. They called us up while the older guy cleaned his hands with a rag. I held the counter with both hands, looking up at them nervously. Jayden smiled at me, inclining his head in my direction the way a guy does to a cute girl.

"Alright, here's the deal," the older guy said as Steven turned to make sure I wasn't blocked from the conversation. "The check engine light is on due to multiple misfires. The hesitation you felt? That's the engine losing power because it's not firing cleanly."

"Is that bad?" I swallowed, already knowing the answer.

"It's not great," the older mechanic admitted. "Low numbers across the board on the compression test. That means the engine's worn out internally. Piston rings, valves, timing chain; all bad. That noise you were hearing? It's the timing chain."

"I'm guessing it would cost more than the car's worth to fix it?" Steven asked plainly.

"Yes," the mechanic confirmed. "We can fix it, but we'll have to either rebuild the engine or replace it entirely. Both very expensive jobs, and not worth it for such an old car."

"Oh," I squeaked. I didn't have any money. I had nothing.

"It's nothing you did," Jayden said, smiling at me. "It's an old car with a high mileage. They don't last forever."

"He's right, Hazel," Steven agreed, rubbing my back reassuringly. "Junking it is probably the best option."

Steven spoke with both mechanics for a few more minutes and they agreed on a small price for the car. They'd sell it to the junkyard once we returned with the title. Jayden gave us both a business card for Ashwood Auto before Steven and I went to clean my car out. There wasn't much in it. We put it in the back of Steven's car and sat down inside.

"Jayden wrote his number on the back of my card," I snorted, trying to distract myself.

"Huh, guess I'm not his type," Steven commented, checking the back of his card. "You gonna call him?"

"No," I said, giving him an annoyed look. "He was cute, but I'm not interested."

"You can, you know," he told me. "If you wanted to."

"We've been through this, Steven," I grumbled, crossing my arms. "We aren't together, I know I can date or fuck, and you have veto rights."

"As long as you know," Steven smiled.

"I doubt Jayden would be interested if he found out about the bun in my oven," I snorted. "And now I don't even have a car. I'll have a hundred bucks when we come back with the title."

"You are a beautiful, smart, and loyal young woman. Usually nice, but I have to admit you have a bit of an attitude sometimes," his grin fell when he saw the withering glare I was giving him. "Anyway, any guy would be lucky to be with you. I'm lucky just to know you, and to call you family."

"Thank you," I mumbled. "I can manage without a car. I can take the bus or walk or something."

"I was planning on getting a new car soon," Steven said casually. "I've been putting it off, but the timing is perfect."

I kept looking at him, my arms crossed. "Steven-"

"So," he continued, cutting me off again, "you take mine."

"I, well..." I mumbled, my chest tightening. "No, I mean, I can't."

"Hazel," Steven said firmly, "it's a good car. Safe. Paid off. I don't need two."

"That's not the point!" I snapped, wincing when I realized how bitchy I sounded. "I mean, it's, you know, a lot."

"It's a car," he shrugged.

It really was just a car to him, no big deal. It wasn't because he was rich, it was because he wanted to make sure my needs were met. To him, it made perfect sense. To me, it was another weight unbalancing the scales between us. He was a great guy, and I hated myself for remembering my grandmother's words. "Every woman who ends up getting abandoned thought the father of their child was a great guy at one time."

I hated that thought and I hated myself for having it.

"I don't want to feel like I'm taking advantage of you," I admitted quietly.

Steven didn't answer right away. When I looked up, he seemed thoughtful. "You're not. Family, remember? And you're having a baby. Our baby. This isn't charity, Hazel. Right now, you need a helping hand. Next time, it might be me. And I know I can count on you."

"Uh, you need me to feed and walk Lexi?" I suggested with a helpless shrug.

"No, thank you," he gave me an amused look. "Maybe changing the baby's diapers will prepare you for when I need them in a few decades. You and Kayla can take turns while Lexi makes fun of me."

"I don't wanna change old man diapers," I made a face. "How about I feed you pudding? Kayla can change you."

"Sure," Steven laughed. "Fine."

"What about insurance?" I bit my lower lip. "And, um, the title. Stuff like that."

His eyebrows lifted in surprise, but he didn't seem offended. "I'll sign the title over to you. We'll move your insurance to your new car. You'll be covered."

Covered.

That word stuck with me, giving me the strength to ask the questions Grandma Maxine had planted in my head. "It'll be mine? Like, legally mine?"

"Yes," he nodded, a bemused expression on his face. "If you're driving it, it's yours. I wouldn't hold anything like that over your head. And, ah, I'm proud of you."

"Proud of me?" I frowned, confused.

"You're thinking about adult stuff, it's smart," Steven explained. "You're going to be a great mother."

"Thank you," I whispered. "I needed to hear that."

"You're welcome," he smiled.

We stayed in the parking lot a moment longer, the sounds of Ashwood Auto buzzing faintly around us. I should have felt better. Safer. I did, mostly. Underneath it all, Grandma's words lingered as a reminder. Love and intentions mattered, but I couldn't be stupid. My daughter couldn't afford that. I had to make sure we were both protected, and I had to get past the guilt that was stopping me.

Thursday August 21, 2025

Thursday cheer practice started at 4:30PM and ended at 7:30PM. A long evening followed by a 6:00AM practice on Friday. It was a lot of work; exhausting and sometimes I just wanted to skip and go home. I didn't. I knew it was worth it. I loved cheerleading and was determined to help the squad excel.

Practice started the same way it always did, with cheerleaders trickling in and starting their warm-ups while waiting on the others. I stood beside the wall, my arms over my head as I stretched. My outfit was my usual workout gear; tiny pair of black shorts, pink sports bra, hair in a simple ponytail.

Jog, high knees, lunges, stretches; I went through my warm-up while trying not to think about court cases and other stress. I just wanted to be a college cheerleader. Glancing toward the stands, I noticed a few football players were present again. Perving on us probably shouldn't have been allowed, but football players tended to get away with anything.

Brent Calloway was sitting comfortably with his feet up, playing on his phone while talking and laughing with his friends. I saw Drew Kensington beside him, and the charismatic rich guy gave me a nod when he noticed me looking his way. I forced a polite smile before turning away.

The reserve squad was warming up on the other side of the room, and I recognized several faces. Emily Hawthorne and Jennifer Rhodes were cheerleaders with me in high school, but I didn't know them well. Most of my attention was focused on Kelsey Aguila.

Kelsey was tying her hair into a ponytail, jaw set and brow furrowed in thought. We hadn't talked about it, but we didn't have to. She would have gotten a subpoena as well. I knew Kelsey was having a tough time, but hopefully her sister was helping. Klarissa had her own trouble with everything that happened at Oakwood Commons. Ashley and Marcia stayed on the same floor the murder happened on, where Klarissa was the RA.

So much for not thinking about court cases.

"Circle up!" Melissa Hart declared, clapping her hands.

We moved without thinking in our haste to follow the instructions of the head coach. The main squad was in the center while the reserves filled the outer ring. I ended up standing between Kendall Young and Janelle Brooks, one of the co-captains. Kelsey was behind me and to the left, close enough to make me think I could actually feel the tension coming off her.

Assistant Coach Darius stepped up, all business. "Remember, tonight is stunts, partner work, and basket tosses. Flyers, you'll rotate. I want clean timing and tight cores. No shortcuts!"

Harper Lin caught my eye from across the circle, her anxiety obvious in her expression. The petite woman was the only other freshman on the main squad, something we had bonded over. Harper was barely five feet with long black hair dyed purple at the tips. She was nice and I tried to help her handle the pressure of a Division One cheer squad. It wasn't easy for either of us. I gave her a small nod, which she returned.

The squad spread out so we could go through warm-ups with Leila Moreno. Leila was working toward her master's degree in kinesiology, and she made sure we knew how to care for our bodies. Focusing on injury prevention and conditioning, we'd often go to her for tips on dealing with our sore muscles.
