Chapter 28

ASHER

Rachel's arrival broke up our meeting with the Reeve, to which I was grateful. It was getting a bit gloomy in that room, and it didn't show any signs of changing. Lucky for me, after she was thrown out of the Reeve's place, Melinda had sought out Rachel, who literally came running.

Aside from the exchange of some serious hugging, my reunion with Rachel was brief as the Reeve took us to the barrier to show he wasn't lying to us.

The barrier was invisible, yet as solid as a steel plate. There was no pain when I touched the wall, just resistance. I ran my hand across the invisible wall, and my fingers came away tingling.

"There's no getting through the barrier," Rachel said. "Believe me, I've tried."

The Reeve had assigned Brooke, Alistair, and me a recently vacant house to live in during our stay. It was a morbid reminder of what kept us captive here.

The Reeve had provided us with dinner but warned us it was the only free meal we'd get. After today, it was our responsibility to feed ourselves. After he departed, Rachel invited us back to her house.

Alistair and Brooke chose to remain in our new house. I wasn't sure if it was to give Rachel and me time to talk, or if they wanted their own private time.

I didn't care. They could use the time to catch up by banging one another for all I cared. I just wanted to talk to Rachel.

"I'll explain everything at home," Rachel started. "I've got to make a quick stop on the way first.

The shock from that "quick stop" nearly killed me.

"Mom!" a pair of voices squealed as the door to the house Rachel had led me to opened.

"Hey!" Rachael said brightly, her face lighting up at the sight of the pair of fox kits that ran up and hugged her.

My mouth hung open as I watched the trio enjoy their apparent family reunion warmly.

The kits were roughly half their mom's height and scrawny by comparison. They were the same red as Rachel had been, but streaks of sandy colored fur ran through them both.

Yeah, I forgot to mention, Rachel's fur had changed from the red I'd last seen her with to a sharp silver. Not the black-and-white-ish like a silver fox from back home. But the actual color silver, all bright and shiny.

When I'd tried to ask about this, she'd quickly shut me up, whispering that she'd explain later.

All that was forgotten as I looked down on her "children."

When they came up for air, Rachel turned them towards me.

"Grady, Jules, say hello to your Aunt Asher," Rachel said.

Both boys immediately hid behind their mom and peaked out at me.

"Asher, these are my boys," Rachel said to me with a slight chuckle at their antics. "We don't get a lot of strangers here, especially someone who's not a Fierce." Turning back to her boys, "Now that's not how we act around family, say hello."

"Hi," one of them said.

"Hey," the other said.

Both remained firmly behind the protection of their mom's legs.

It took me a moment to get over my shock.

"H...hello Grady...Jules. It's nice to meet you," I managed.

Rachel chuckled.

"Alright," Rachel said as she took each of her boys in hand. "Come on, you two, let's get home before this gets anymore awkward."

Neither boy said anything as their mom led them away. Both boys kept a wary eye on me all the way to their house. Once inside, they immediately disappeared into a side room and closed the door.

"Sorry bout that," Rachel said as she smiled at the closed door.

"Which? The boys or the fact that you have boys!?!" I finally let myself say unrestrained.

"Yeah, yeah," Rachel said, waving at me. "Park it while I get these two settled." She pointed at a small sitting area in the middle of the room before heading into the room where the boys disappeared.

The house wasn't that big. It consisted of a room with another of those unlit campfires like the Reeve had at its center. Around the campfire was a small couch and two rocking chairs. All of them were made from a smoothed-down wood that was surprisingly comfortable when I sat in one of the chairs.

There were two doors here as well. One what appeared to be the boys' room and the other I guessed was Rachel's, but I wasn't sure.

I was experimenting with rocking in the chair when Rachel reappeared a few minutes later.

"They'll pass out in a few minutes," Rachel said quietly. "We'll have to keep it down until then. Drink?"

"Oh, yes, please!" I said. I had a feeling I was going to need a stiff one to make it through this story.

Rachel smiled broadly and went to a small cabinet built into the wall. She retrieved a bottle and two glasses before returning to me. She uncorked the bottle and poured a good measure before doing the same for herself, then sat in the other rocking chair.

I took the offered glass and sniffed it. There was a slight woodsy smell to it.

"We're not connoisseurs, Ash," Rachel said as she took a deep drink from her glass. "Just drink it."

I took a sip and found it quite tasty. It was light, like cider, but with a much deeper flavor, closer to whiskey. I took a swallow then, and it tingled down my throat, not burning as I expected.

"Nice, right?" Rachel smiled and took another drink. "Everneedle is the best."

I had to agree as I took another drink, but couldn't hold back anymore.

"What happened?" I asked finally.

"Oh boy," Rachel sighed. "Where to start."

"Well, last I saw you, you were healing up at The Roadhouse," I said. "Start there."

"OK," Rachel started. "I guess that's as good a place as any. It was after you brought Angela back, and after that Rhi character's visit, that I found out I was pregnant. Well, Patty told me I was. Talk about a shock. With everything else going on, finding out I was expecting kind of changed everything."

"Wait, Patty knew?" I asked. "She didn't mention anything."

"That's because I asked her not to," Rachel said. "Glad to hear she really can keep a secret. Anyway, Patty wasn't sure what she could do for me as Fierce biology wasn't exactly common knowledge in Yolig. Except for in the 'best way to kill them' sorta way, you know?"

"I'm learning," I said honestly. The more I learned, the more I came to realize Fierce were hated not only for existing, but also for worshiping what was basically an illegal god.

"So, I headed off for Jeremy's place," Rachel said as she refilled her glass.

I looked down and found mine was empty, too, so I got a refill.

"Wait, who's Jeremy?" I asked.

"Oh, wow," Rachel said. "I really haven't been keeping in touch, have I?"

"No, Rachel, you haven't," I said. "A lot of folks are worried about you...you know, the ones who care about you?" I said testily.

"OK, you're right," Rachel said. "I'm sorry. But, let me explain."

"Please do," I said, holding out my glass to have it refilled as I'd already drained it for a second time.

"So, I met Jeremy in Laghold," Rachel started as she filled my glass with a sour look.

"Laghold, also known as Gotham City for you, right?" I said, recalling how Rachel had played detective, trying to find out what plots were being hatched against The Roadhouse and by whom. That, plus she liked playing on rooftops.

"You wanna hear this or not?" Rachel asked, with a bit more seriousness than I expected.

I held my hands up in surrender.

"Thank you," Rachel said. "Jeremy was a...trader. He dabbled in a little bit of everything. He seemed to be a guy...well, he was a Fierce of the fox persuasion," Rachel smiled when she said it, as if it had a private meaning. "Anyway, he was the guy who could get just about anything."

"Ah," I said. "A thief."

"No!" Rachel snapped, but then she looked thoughtful. "Well, probably. But he was a charmer. And handsome. And just a beast in the..." Rachel stopped, looking up to me with a touch of embarrassment.

"Don't stop on my account," I grinned at her. "Please continue."

Rachel started to say something when her ear twitched and her head snapped to the door just as I heard a click.

"If I come in there and you're not in bed, there's gonna be hell to pay!" Rachel threatened.

The door clicked shut, followed by the sound of a pair of scampering feet fleeing back to bed.

Rachel turned to me, smiling.

"Kids," she said with a sigh. "Where was I?"

"A beast in the bedroom," I said helpfully.

"Uh...yeah," Rachel said. "Well, it didn't take long for me to find out about that. The boy had a way with words." Rachel's eyes grew distant. "And his hands...and don't even get me started on that tongue!" Her voice had started off dreamy but ended in heat.

I felt a little cheated when she didn't go into more detail but instead moved on with her story.

"Well, I returned to Laghold to let him know I was expecting, but he wasn't there," Rachel said.

"You were sure it was his?" I asked.

Rachel looked at me.

"I'm not trying to be mean!" I said, taking another sip of my drink and finding it empty once more. *Was this stuff evaporating? I couldn't be drinking it this fast,* I thought to myself.

"Yes," Rachel said flatly. "I'm sure. Trust me, it's not like you can knock me up."

I only hesitated a moment before saying, "OK, OK. Sorry, jeez."

"I asked around, but no one had seen him," Rachel said. "Eventually, I found someone who told me where he lived. I was a little worried I'd run into the wife and kids he'd never told me about, but I went anyway."

"He was married?" I asked, a bit stunned.

Rachel stared at me.

"Really, Asher?" Rachel started. "Since when did you start worrying if your bed buddies were married or not?"

"What?" I said, my head tingling slightly from the alcohol. "I always worried about whether they might come home, or if they might want to join, or if they might be worth some personal attention..."

"Right," Rachel said. "I forgot who I was talking to for a minute. Well, when I finally got here, I didn't find his family as he didn't have one. Apparently, he never stayed in one place long enough to get himself tied down." Rachel paused in her storytelling to smile. "Well, that's not true."

"Do tell," I said eagerly. "In as much detail as possible, please."

Rachel looked at me with her eyebrows raised for a long minute.

"What?" I said, holding my glass out for a refill.

"Easy with this, it's got a quiet kick that sneaks up on you," Rachel warned as she poured.

"Really?" I said as I watched her pour. "I'm just now feeling a bit tingly."

Rachel frowned at me and looked from the bottle to her still half-full second glass, then back at me again. "This is what, your fourth glass? You should already be under the table, drooling." She put the bottle down without refilling her glass.

"I must have a high tolerance for this stuff," I said, shrugging my shoulders and taking another gulp. "Maybe it isn't as strong towards humans?"

"Maybe. At least try not to act like a sot, would you?" Rachel asked only to have me stick my tongue out at her.

"Where was I?" Rachel asked.

"About to fill me in on all the sordid details," I said with a lecherous grin.

"Well, it turned out Jeremy had been killed by the creature on the way to the village," Rachel said, her voice sobering. "One of the hunting parties found what was left of him and identified him by his satchel."

"Oh," I said quietly. "Sorry, Rachel."

Rachel shrugged.

"I really just wanted to make sure he knew about the boys in case he wanted to be involved," Rachel said, her eyes misting slightly as she took another drink. "I wasn't in love with him or anything." She was quiet for a moment. "He was a scoundrel, you'd have liked him."

"I'm sure I would have," I said, really trying not to sound like my normal horny self.

"Anyway," Rachel sniffed as she continued. "I found out about the barrier too late. When the Reeve heard my story, he gave me Jeremy's old house," she paused to wave her hand about the place. "So, I guess he got involved after all.

"The boys were born not long after," Rachel continued. "Thank God for healing magic. If the hospitals back home had it, they'd make a killing!"

"Healing magic," I said quietly. I hadn't even considered magic when it came to having kids. I'd been here nearly two years and still hadn't completely brought my way of thinking about things around to the reality of my situation.

"What?" Rachel asked.

"Nothing," I said. "Please continue."

"Not much else, honestly," Rachel said. "I had the boys and have been raising them the best I can while learning as much as I can about being a Fierce."

"I thought they implanted that knowledge when you modified your body?" I asked.

"They did," Rachel agreed. "But...it's like the information was outdated. Either that or it was just plain wrong."

"Huh," I said. If the information they'd given us was outdated, that would explain a few things. But how do you give someone outdated biological information about their own bodies?

"What about..." I asked, indicating her body, "Your new look?"

"Oh! That," Rachel started. "Yeah, when the boys were born, I woke up the next day looking like this." Rachel spread her arms out.

"You went gray overnight?" I asked.

"It's silver, not gray!" Rachel snapped. "And you shouldn't talk!" she said, pointing at me.

"What?" I asked.

"You're the one going gray, not me," Rachel said, still pointing at me.

"What are you talking about?" I asked as I grabbed at my hair in a sudden panic. Had something happened to my awesome hair?

Rachel stood up, went to a cabinet and retrieved a mirror before handing it to me.

When I looked in the mirror, I froze. There was a streak about an inch wide down the side of my head!

"It's white?" I muttered as I continued to stare.

"You didn't know?" Rachel asked.

"No," I said slowly. "It wasn't there back at The Roadhouse." The nightmare image from the night I spent in Patty's surgery flashed in my mind. The one where I'd seen Shae's white-haired face as my own reflection. Was that coming true?

"Did anything major happen between there and here?" Rachel asked.

"Celeste," I whispered, my mind locking onto the image of the spirit.

"Who's Celeste?" Rachel asked.

So, I spent the next few minutes explaining what happened.

"Wow!" Rachel said as she sipped at her drink. "You never do anything simple, do you?"

I looked at her and frowned.

"Jules? Grady? Really?" I asked.

"They're family names," she said with a shrug.

"Oh!" I said, reaching for my pack. "I've got something for you."

"You brought me a present?" Rachel teased. "You shouldn't have."

"Don't say that till you see it," I said as I continued rifling through my pack before coming up with the small package. I grinned as I handed it to her.

"What is it?" Rachel said as she took it from me.

"Something to keep me from having a heart attack while you're around," I said, my grin widening.

Rachel froze when she opened the wrapping and looked at me with a bemused expression.

"And just what," she said as she lifted the small black ribbon from its wrappings, "do you expect me to do with this?"

I leaned over and tapped the tiny silver bell dangling from the ribbon. It rang out with a gentle chime.

"I expect you to wear it," I said, biting my lip.

"And just why would I do that?" Rachel asked as she dropped the wrappings and held the choker between her hands.

"Well," I said as I took it from her and got behind her. "As I said before. I didn't want you giving me a heart attack with how you love sneaking up on me." I pulled the choker around her neck and tied it securely.

I reached over and handed her the mirror from earlier.

Rachel looked at herself and reached up to touch the tiny bell.

"You do know this is totally degrading, right?" Rachel said, but her voice told me I'd sparked something inside her.

"Totally," I agreed with her, but then leaned forward and whispered in her ear, "But so sexy!"

Then something brushed against me.

"What the hell?" I yelped and jumped away from Rachel.

Rachel began laughing at my reaction to her tail brushing against me.

"What's wrong, Asher?" Rachel asked. "You know, for a big bad warrior, you sure startle easily."

"Since when do you have two tails?" I asked. As I watched, what had looked like a single tail had split in two! No, it didn't split; it was actually two tails. They were being held so close together that they looked like one tail.

I reached out and touched her tails.

Rachel made a noise like she was trying to hold in a moan.

"Your tail wasn't like this when I--" I started.

"The last time you were--" Rachel started, but paused as her ear twitched toward the boy's room. "The last time you were fucking the shit out of me?" she finally finished in a harsh whisper.

Hearing her say it had me adjusting my pants while still trying to keep my hands on her tails.

"Uh, yeah," I managed, my hands sliding down her tails to her luscious ass.

Rachel looked back at me over her shoulder, not trying to move away from my hands. If anything, she was pushing back against them.

"I'm not sure if it's because it's you, the drink, or the fact I haven't been laid in six months, but I'm willing if you are," Rachel offered.

"I was hoping you'd say that," I said as my hands wrapped around her waist and pulled her into my lap.

A small yelp escaped Rachel's throat as her bottom landed on my already throbbing cock. She put her hands on the sides of the rocking chair and started grinding down on my cock.

As she began her lap dance, I reached up behind her and loosened her top. The material fell away from her chest, revealing her lovely, albeit furry, breasts. I wasted no time in taking each in hand and pulling her back against me.

Rachel relaxed back against me, resting her face beside mine as my fingers ran gentle circles in the soft fur that covered her chest.

A few minutes of this frantic grinding and groping passed before Rachel slid off and knelt before me. Her hands flew to the laces of my pants and tugged relentlessly until my trousers were on the floor beside us.

"What is this?" Rachel asked, staring down at the warskin covering my body. She didn't wait for a reply as her fingers quickly began to stroke my hard cock as it strained against the fabric.

"Personal...armor," I panted as she continued to tease me through the fabric. "It won't tear," I warned her when I saw her fingers attempting to make a hole. "Give me a sec--" I started as I reached to open the seams, but she stopped me with a single hand.

"Won't tear, huh?" Rachel asked, looking up at me with a mischievous twinkle in her eye.

Without warning, her teeth sank down on my cock, causing me to jerk instinctively. But there wasn't any pain, not even real pressure to be honest. The suit seemed to absorb most of it, leaving me only the sexy sight of Rachel literally chewing on my cock. The sight, combined with the gentle pressure I did feel, was working for me.

"Oh really?" When Rachel saw she wasn't hurting me, but just the opposite, she asked, "Does it stretch?" Before I could answer, Rachel began tugging on the fabric.

I opened the seams, allowing the fabric to loosen and bunch.

Rachel wasted no time, wrapping the fabric around my cock and roughly shoving the entire thing into her mouth.

The one time Rachel tried giving me a blowjob in her Fierce body, I'd been so terrified of her teeth that I hadn't enjoyed it as I should have. But now, watching her go to town on my cock and feeling nothing more than arousal was enough to trigger my first orgasm.
