To know they're doing the work and dedicated to the class, the quizzes are 5% each. The mid-term exam is 35%. The final exam is 45%, it counts, but it can't bail you out of slacking off during the course."

He nodded, "Yeah, I get that. Other instructors, more successful instructors think the same way." He took a picture of my whiteboard, "A great example of class planning. Well done." He paused, "I just needed to know you're on top of things."

I asked, "No other questions?"

He hesitated, "The high school student group you mentioned in your interview, 'Nude for Knowledge?' it had benefits for the students?"

I smiled, "It was the idea of the students and they lobbied administration to approve the group. At high school it seems most sports are male. Girls get volleyball. Most groups are male. Few groups are targeted at, well, nerds. Not that it's their definition, it's a female nerd group that makes a bold presence in the school. For them, it's a social support group inside the smaller social setting of a high school. Female nerds often feel overlooked or shunned by the boys. I paused a moment. "As I described it in my interview, they cross tutor each other on various subjects. But I think that's a minor benefit to the group." Another pause, "Why do you ask?"

He replied, "A couple female students have been going around, since your interview was posted, trying to figure out how to get a similar group approved on campus. Someone from administration may want to talk with you. And I believe after your description of the group, you've hit on the best reason that the students haven't really thought about."

I asked, "Anyway I can get the students names, meet with them?"

He nodded, " I'm surprised they haven't already approached you. And they may yet. But I'll see if I can get their names."

We wrapped up our meeting and he was on his way.

I wasn't far behind him, happy with how the meeting went.

I had several greetings by name on the way to my Jeep. I made my way home. Brent wasn't home from his interview yet, so I poured some wine, put together sandwiches to go with pasta salad from Whole Foods for dinner when he arrives. I setup outside at the table and started grading homework and entering scores.
