The morning started out normal with coffees, a thorough washing of my body in the outdoor shower by Brent. We finished our morning routines, my putting a bit more effort in my makeup. Soon Brent was following me to the school.

Third period went great. After the bell rang, I headed to the faculty lounge to meet up with Brent. I told him, "Everything is set for 4:00." He smiled as we took seats at a table with a couple other teachers. Brent brought us a light lunch he put together last night, and we discussed our classes so far today. My three afternoon classes went really well. It reminded me, I was in my comfort zone. But it's time to accept new challenges. After last bell, I headed out and drove to BASU. He waved me in and introduced me to Ms. Reynolds, Director of HR.

She took over the meeting with a smile, "Well, welcome to BASU. We're going to go through the employment contract, the education benefits you'll be taking advantage of, and get you setup on the campus portal. Then you'll head to security for your ID badge. It also serves as your key to the math buildings, the classrooms and your office. It also opens the gates to faculty parking lots.

We started going through the employee contract. It was more detailed, very much like the one I signed at Sunny Glen. She did say, "Be sure to register a bank account on your campus portal profile for direct deposit of our salary. We don't handle account information at HR. It's secure data you manage." And a bit later, "You just sign here." I signed the contract, making me an employee of BASU.

She gave me a booklet with all the educational benefits, along with a sheet of paper on the requirements for a Doctorate in Advanced Mathematics. I have the Masters. I'll be getting the university level teaching experience, nine courses to complete, then my dissertation. I have my road map,

Using my phone, I went to a website, using information she handed me on another sheet of paper. Using my employee number, I started the create a login ID process, entering a password to be used. I logged in and we walked through the email and messaging functions and where to update my info, like my bank account and vehicle(s) information on the car I'll parking here. She informed me, "Take this sheet with my employee number with me to security. They use that when creating your ID badge. Security is in the Student Union. It's behind the big math building, cross the little plaza and on the left."

She finished with, "After you have your badge, you can't park in the visitor lot. They check plates to see if vehicles belong to staff or students and will ticket you. And you know where your office is? You're in '348,' by the elevator. Move in when you like. Spend time walking and learning the campus. I will be dropping off a new, pre-configured iPad for your use."

Mr. Grainger added, "I'll let you know when I have, but I'll drop off the lesson plans and materials for your summer session classes. Feel free to modify them to match you teaching style and schedule as we discussed."He paused, "Any questions?"

I looked at them, "I've never left a job before, and I dread telling them. Any advice?"

Ms. Reynolds, "Give them notice now, or soon, so they have more time to arrange a replacement. Do it in writing. And tell them as you just explained to us, you really hate the thoughts of leaving the school, but have to take an opportunity at a more challenging position. Something to that effect."

Mr. Grainger added, "I'm sure they know a teacher with your talents and ambition would move on to bigger and better things. Happens with public schools all the time. Don't worry about hurting their feelings, they'll understand."

I nodded, "Thank you. All that helps. So, Security, update my profile, check my office for an iPad, familiarize myself with the campus. And get the course plans and materials when they are ready. And be here June 2, to get started."

Mr. Grainger nodded, "That's it, You're a university instructor now."

I nodded, "I will. Thank you.

After a round of goodbyes I headed out of his office. I made my way past the big math building and spotted the Student Union. I checked the directory and made my way to Security and stepped in the door. The female in uniform behind the counter smiled, "Janice Butler?"

I nodded and smiled, "That's me. Here for an ID badge. I guess for obvious reasons they let you know in advance?"

She nodded, "Yeah. We won't put you in cuffs. Have your temporary ID sheet with you?"

I retrieved it from my bag and handed it to her. She looked me up on the computer, "Okay. Let's have you come around this way for a photo." A minute later, she had taken my photo. Another couple minutes a badge with my picture was programmed with a unique lock code. She explained, tap it to the little blue lighted square at a door, or the parking gate. It'll beep and turn green, then you can enter."

She paused, "You'll need a lanyard. Black, white or school colors?"

I smiled, "School colors, please."

She grabbed a couple of them, attached my ID badge to one and handed them to me. I put the one with the badge on, and the extra lanyard in my bag., "Thank you." After stepping out I looked at my picture, it was from below my boobs and up. Diagonally across my picture, below my face, was 'Instructor' in faded gold where the picture kinda shown through.

I went back to the math offices building, returning greetings from polite students along the way. I headed upstairs to my office and tried the badge on the scanner. The door unlocked as promised. Sitting on my desk was a new, large size iPad in a previously opened box. I grabbed it and took it with me to the car.

Brent was waiting on the front porch when I pulled up and parked. I grabbed all my stuff and holding up my ID badge, I walked up onto the porch. Brent smiled, "That looks official."

I smiled, "It is!"

He grabbed my stuff and we walked to the back porch table, with a stop to drop off my heels at the staircase. He made a run to get me a glass of wine while I got situated. I had the big iPad up and running. It automatically went to the add a wifi network page. When I hooked it up, it rebooted and automatically came up to the campus portal page in the browser. I can tell they had loaded stuff, and routines to it.

Brent smiled, "They gave you a new toy."

I nodded, "And they made special configurations to it. First thing it went to the school portal page. I have to enter my bank account and car information. They're very, enter and maintain your own personal information at HR." I entered my checking account info, and then my car info. Done.

Brent had dinner on the grill, then I started telling Brent about the meeting and my trip to security. He smiled, "I guess it was a good thing they told Security about you in advance?"

I laughed, "All of them in uniforms, guns, handcuffs, it was pretty intimidating being naked in there."

Brent asked, "You should treat yourself to something."

I asked, "You mean besides you?"

He laughed, "Yeah, something you've always wanted to remind you you've made it."

I smiled, "Like that convertible?"

He nodded, "You're thinking like me. The Jeep truck, I bought it as soon as I got the job at Sunny Glen."

I guess it wouldn't hurt to check cars out on the internet. I'm not buying anything until after I get my bonus, which should be deposited any day now. Then I can pay off the hot tub and deposit the rest in savings. They really recommended the BASU Credit Union."

Brent started getting dinner off the grill while I plated, chicken breasts, broccoli and potato salad. Brent was pulling up different convertibles on his iPad as we enjoyed dinner. I replied, "Too expensive." to about everything. The couple that had a comfortable price were the Mini or a Miata, "They might be worth a look." Brent pulled up a soft top two door Jeep. Pretty basic, even a manual transmission. I smiled, "Yeah, I'd look at that. Bigger, and space for shopping."

Brent smiled, "I'll call my salesman, see what he's got to show us. Maybe this weekend?"

I nodded, "Might be early, but we can look. You enjoy car shopping, huh?" He grinned, "Especially when it's not my money." I laughed, "In the meantime, you could help me write my letter of resignation? I'm not sending it until I get that bonus though."

After we cleaned up the outdoor kitchen and loaded the dishwasher, we sat down to write that letter. We took our time putting together a draft, then began refining it. I saved it as a draft until the deposit arrives. But it's ready.
